  • Brilliant host

Sure, the guests are great, but the incisive questions by new host Dr. John Betjemann are what sets this podcast apart. He blends the interview technique of the greatest practitioners of the form - Rose, Winfrey, Hannity - with the scientific acumen of a master clinician. We're not listening to the other neurology podcasts anymore.

Hemorrhage and Risk Factors in Unruptured Brain AVM
Q: What were the demographics of the cohort in your study?
The study included over 3,000 unruptured AVM patients with a median age of 38 years, about half were female, and approximately 77 percent identified as non-Hispanic white.
Hemorrhage and Risk Factors in Unruptured Brain AVM
Q: What kind of discussions are had with patients about AVM treatment?
Clinicians discuss the treatment risks and the risk of hemorrhage if left untreated, which is typically cited as two to four percent per year for unruptured AVMs.
Hemorrhage and Risk Factors in Unruptured Brain AVM
Q: What do we know currently about managing AVMs, and how did you develop this research question for this study?
Management of brain AVMs is challenging because of the risk-benefit uncertainties of interventions versus conservative management, particularly for unruptured AVMs. The study aims to clarify the rates and risk factors for future hemorrhage to inform treatment options.
GLP-1 Receptor Agonists in Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension
Q: What did you find?
The study found that patients needed less medication, required fewer surgical procedures, and significantly improved their symptoms.
GLP-1 Receptor Agonists in Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension
Q: What was the patient population like?
The population consisted of disproportionately females, with a median age of 42, mirroring the typical patient demographic affected by IIH.
