I have listened to all of Mary’s media, from documentaries to intelligence squared debates, and she always does such thoughtful and inspiring work. With regards to this podcast, I am curious about the comparison between Trump and Sulla. It seemed like you all avoided that comp in the first episode for obvious reasons (Sulla paved the road to Caesar which led to the collapse of the republic), however I am still wondering how aligned their actions/approach to power are. I was so excited to listen to this podcast and learn from Mary Beard and Charlotte Higgins. They are so smart and well spoken. Can’t wait for the next episode!
I really like the podcast but it is so hard to listen. The sound of their voices varies so much. Both speakers drop there voices so I turn it up. Then they make emphatic points that are then assaulting loud. I think a good sound editor could help a lot.
I’m enjoying the majority of this but I do wish Charlotte would not repeat the same point 5 times as she gets carried away and you can hear Mary trying to speak with something I’d much rather hear. Maybe they’ll get into a better and more complementary balance with time. I shall continue to listen
Trump Derangement Syndrome. Cheap shots at someone who has nothing to do with the classics. What a wasted chance at what could have been a good podcast–spoiled by leftie nonsense.
