  • Good

A very entertaining listen, Jimmy is particularly funny. Occasionally they do sound like 2 privileged older white men and this is not helped by the fact that ALL their guests are white older men like them too. Bit of an echo chamber. Apart from this it is a must listen.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Amol Rajan on leaving the Today Programme, the BBC's future and leaping into the "Digital Narnia" of the creator economy
Q: What led you to want to make this change from broadcasting to entrepreneurship?
Amol discusses wanting to fight decline in the traditional media space, pursue a multi-platform strategy, and build a community online that engages with future-focused topics like AI and social mobility.
Lisa McGee on creating How to Get to Heaven from Belfast & what the future holds for Derry Girls
Q: What role did music play in shaping the show's tone compared to Derry Girls?
Music was integral to the energy and joy in the scenes; Lisa treats musical cues as essential tools to underline emotional and tonal shifts, not just background accompaniment.
Lisa McGee on creating How to Get to Heaven from Belfast & what the future holds for Derry Girls
Q: How did moving to Netflix change the creative process for How to Get to Heaven from Belfast?
The core writing process remained with the same team, but Netflix provided a bigger stage and different money dynamics, with global rights shifting how the show could be sold later and how the team approached scope and pacing.
More pressure on BBC Chair Samir Shah, Gary Lineker’s big money Netflix deal, and a Q&A at Content London.
Q: What happened with Have I Got Sport For You and why have panel shows fallen out of fashion?
Panel shows wax and wane in popularity; pilots and formats can fail even with big names, but successful series like Would I Lie To You demonstrate enduring appeal when the concept is strong and well produced. The challenge is maintaining broadcaster enthusiasm for new panels.
More pressure on BBC Chair Samir Shah, Gary Lineker’s big money Netflix deal, and a Q&A at Content London.
Q: Can you see an end of conventional legacy TV on the horizon? Does indie production have a future?
There's a persistent debate about legacy TV ending, but history suggests that while formats evolve and streaming grows, live, appointment television and well-made long-form content will persist. The key is not a single model but a mix, with independents continuing to find niches and co-produce globally to stay viable.
