Polite Society is a fun and playful homage to 70s martial arts film that also mixes in Jane Austin-style romance and early 2000s teen comedies. The core sister relationship of Ria and Lena ties this fun remix of styles together to make a great theate... more
Alright, let me tell everyone from the jump I’m biased on this. Donkey Kong and Super Mario Bros. are some of the earliest memories in my life. Playing games with these characters are dearer to me than superhero comics, so after suffering in middle s... more
D Spinning Gold is not good folks. This film that is sold as the story of Casablanca Records is about Neil Bogart, one of the founders, and from the way, the film tells it the driving force behind this label and the artists on it and somehow their... more
A fantastic performance from Teyana Taylor anchors this film about a mother and son that goes in ways you wouldn’t expect that also captures the spirit of mid-’90s through early 2000s New York City perfectly. A THANK YOU TO ALL THE SUP... more

I'm usually a hard sell on the one-man-show style podcasts, but Julian Lytle is really good at drawing you in to the world of pop culture, whether its my world of scifi film or comics OR the odd universe of music. His interviews are also solid work. There's a lot of charisma here -- an honest, free flowing charisma. That makes for a show that's really easy to listen to without feeling like it's something forgettable. more
This podcast got way better when they had Kenny Keil on. Just kidding, it's super dope anyway and I'm glad I discovered it!
It's a very insightful, very thoughtful podcast series that speaks aout things on a much deeper level than a lot of the comic podcasts I've listened to recently. It goes beyond the "I love comics and everything is great" mindset that sometimes comes out in other shows and talks about real things. Ronald Wimberly saying "likes won't pay my rent" and Ulises talking about how we don't respect the King until after he dies are probably some things I'd never hear on another comics podcast. But this po... more
I finally began listening to Julian’s podcast earlier this year with the first of his landmark episodes with Ronald Wimberly. There was so much (as we say) 'real talk’ layered between an obvious passion for popular culture, comics and music that this was on the cusp of being required listening. It was validated thereafter by the spectacular episode with Ulises Farinas that was the tipping point. And I have listened ever since. more
From comics to music to movies. Julian and his guests always have an interesting conversation. Always some new knowledge being shared.
