Heartbroken that I need to change my glowing review of Hymns for the Road, but Killionaire is not what I hoped for in Hodgepodge’s next project. It’s gratuitously self indulgent and on the same level as a child’s fantasy about murdering their school bully. No substance or meaning or artistry about it. This is not the deep and reflective storytelling experience which I had come to love from Hodgepodge in Hymns and Find Us Alive. This is amazing. The soundscape crushes you, like a 10000ft tall monument in the distance. Like a 10000ft tall monument directly above you.
As a real train-head this was certainly cathartic. I hope it happens in real life.
