  • Thank God

so far I only listen regularly to the Media one with Henley, Menzies and Lowman and it is mandatory listening. Canada doesn’t do this kind of coverage well at all (with the exception of the odd Canadaland ep), until now.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Is LNG Canada the best example of Indigenous economic reconciliation?
Q: What are the actual benefits for First Nations communities participating in natural resource projects, and how can we extend those benefits to other communities across the country?
Benefits include higher local incomes, job opportunities, and revenue streams that did not require Ottawa funding, plus equity opportunities in projects like Cedar LNG. The discussion emphasizes continuing dialogue with industry and a scalable, project-by-project approach to ensure win-wins for different communities.
Why measuring student success has become so difficult
Q: What concrete changes would you advocate for to improve access to STEM and post-secondary opportunities?
Increase transparency in university admissions and program capacities, align K-12 assessments with post-secondary expectations, and implement deliberate teacher support and shared planning to strengthen instruction across schools.
Why measuring student success has become so difficult
Q: How do you see the role of standardized testing in accountability for students and schools?
Standardized exams provide a necessary benchmark for measuring whether students are learning the curriculum and where gaps exist, serving as a check on the system and informing policy decisions.
Why this Conservative MP defied China and went to Taiwan anyway
Q: What does exercising Canadian sovereignty mean in practical terms for Taiwan policy?
Chong argues it means continuing parliamentary visits to Taiwan, maintaining freedom of action, and not letting Beijing set the terms of engagement through unilateral declarations.
Is Trump using forced labour claims to justify new tariffs on Canada?
Q: What is the evidence process used by the US government to establish forced labor claims, and does this increase litigation risk?
The guest explains that the process involves broad consultations and a light, allusion-based documentation rather than targeted product-level evidence, which increases the likelihood of litigation due to the weak evidentiary basis for many country-specific claims.
