I just finished my 3rd episode and I am officially convinced the creators and host of this podcast have infiltrated my brain, read my mind, and made this podcast specifically for me. Super creepy.
In all seriousness… I think I may have just realized nothing is wrong with me.
This is a wonderful podcast. If nothing else, it will give all aspiring writers the idea that there is no one specific way toward success. Every writer has their own path and they all seem to be different, with the only common factor being extreme persistence. Brian has a knack for getting at the heart of how each of his guests crafts their stories, and presents it all in an honest, heartfelt way.
I’ve enjoyed every episode I’ve listened to!
I’ve learned more from the first forty episodes of this podcast than I did in two years of senior-level BA creative writing courses. Brian has an incomparable instinct for asking thought-provoking questions that I never knew I had until they were answered, and even giving his guests pause.
I always listen on my way to work and hope I get there early enough to replay certain parts and take notes before I have to start for the day. Both the podcast and HappyWriter have changed my life and my wri... more
Very thoughtful, well conducted interviews. The conversations and inspiring and a definite lift for an aspiring writer!
Valuable lessons. Good interview style. Relatable and unpretentious.
This podcast is truly inspiring. Hearing about the methods that have and haven’t worked for other writers makes me feel like I’m not a complete failure and that I have it in me to finish writing my own novel. I listen to Brian’s interviews literally every day. They’re a wonderful reminder of -why- I started writing in the first place.
Brian hosts intelligent, swift, and thorough interviews of accomplished writers on their story, their craft, and their process. Dig in deep and listen enthusiastically.
Hi, Brian.
I hope you and yours are all well during these unprecedented times!
I just wanted to tell you how impressed I am by the quality of your podcast. I’m an embryonic writer and only just found you a week or so ago. I’d listened to a couple and wanted a UK perspective, which is where I’m from, but when I read your notes, I just had to give your podcast a go. I’ve let the accent go and you have a great voice, anyway.
I love, love LOVE that you focus on mindset and attitude (Monday Motiv... more
This podcast inspires me. Motivates me to get those words out of my head and onto the page. I love how Brian picks the brains of all the authors. It’s fascinating to hear how each one creates their magic.
I keep recommending this podcast to people because I’m obsessed with it. Especially my “nerd” friends (as my husband calls us). I started at the first podcast and I’m working my way to most recent. There’s already a list of episodes I plan to listen to again. But what I love is that it’s not just an author coming on selling you their latest project or telling you how brilliant they are. It’s literally about how they write. How they fit it in with their life or day job, and how they got to where ... more
Brian has put together a series of interviews that essentially give me hope as an aspiring writer. As a former graphic designer turned teacher/grad school student with a family schedule to keep up with, it’s easy to feel like I’ll never get to where I want to be as a writer. The stories from this podcast have done a lot to keep that dream alive. Anyone who has written a book, short story, or anything else for the pure joy of it will love this series.
This podcast has become a weekly listen for me. I’m deep into a long-term writing project and so appreciate these dig into craft and process interviews. Interview w Darin Strauss and his reflection at the end on how it’s impossible to peg someone’s potential was fascinating; loved most recent show with Sofia Segovia, the one w Lisa Scottoline, so many. Thanks, Brian and team!
I just wanted to say I LOVE this podcast! I’m so happy I came across this one in particular because Brian is super upbeat and when he’s interviewing it’s all about the guest which is super important. I just recently started my site Venusianjonel.com so I’m happy to have something to reference to when I’m not feeling inspired 🦋
No. I just cannot believe that I have not reviewed this podcast yet, as it is my THIRD time around listening from beginning to end. And with each episode I pick up new thoughts, I get new inspirations, and new ideas. This is the wisdom of writers broken extracted and broken down into delightful conversations. Brian asks all the right questions and bleeds his own beautiful soul into this podcast. Thank you thank you thank you for doing this.
