  • Hits home and expands possibilities

Thanks so much for providing this podcast. I came into the horse business as a full time career later in life. It has long been a side hustle. The reality of trying to make a living is hard for someone non- salesy like me. The costs of doing business and what people want to pay is not realistic as you work to get off the ground. Perseverance and making smart choices by educating myself with a podcast like yours helps. Just a note, the interview with the Plaid Horse founder was very inspiring. ... more

  • Great information for horse business owners!

I just recently listened to one of Denise Alvarez’s podcasts and I am kicking myself that I didn’t start listening to them sooner! I have gained so much great information from just one podcast. I’m looking forward to listening to more! Even though I’m the director of a horse rescue - not an equine business - I find that so many of these tips apply my situation, as well. Wonderful content - thank you!

The Hidden Risk in Your Horse Business: Understanding Equine Liability Insurance with Danielle Aamodt
Q: What is CCC coverage and when should a trainer or boarding barn consider adding it?
CCC, or care, custody, and control, covers horses that you do not own but are in your care, such as horses at a boarding barn or horses you are temporarily handling. It is purchased as an add-on to a general liability policy, with per-horse limits, and is important whenever you are responsible for other people's horses.
The Hidden Risk in Your Horse Business: Understanding Equine Liability Insurance with Danielle Aamodt
Q: I'm a coach who travels to events; why do I need liability insurance if the rider is on their own horse and I am just coaching at the event?
Because the coach issues instructions and the guidance given can lead to outcomes that generate liability, so the insurance covers potential negligence or fault linked to coaching actions, not just the horse owner's responsibility. The policy follows you when you travel for coaching and lessons if they are listed on the policy.
The Hidden Risk in Your Horse Business: Understanding Equine Liability Insurance with Danielle Aamodt
Q: First, would you give us a good definition of what equine liability insurance is and why it's non-negotiable for equine business owners?
Equine liability insurance is a policy written by insurers who understand the horse industry and covers the business's activities with horses, including non-owned horses and situations where clients or others are involved. It is essential because waivers alone can't fully protect the business from claims of negligence or liability; having targeted liability coverage provides a safety net for property damage and injuries arising from horse activities.
Behind the Scenes of Equine Affaire: Lessons in Marketing, Leadership, and Growth with Coagi Long
Q: Tell me how the succession from founder to owner came about.
Coagi describes a gradual, logical transition built on long tenure with the founder, maintaining the same staff and focusing on continuity while taking on expanded leadership and responsibility. The move was formalized in 2018 when she took over as president and owner, following a period of planning and mentorship.
