  • McDonald’s and HSBC advertisers? Sort it out

In disbelief that at the top of the episode for leading environmentalist Philip Lymbery (Farmageddon, Dead Zones) there is a McDonalds advert for a sausage sandwich breakfast. What an insult. Awful to advertise that regardless of who the guest is but I actually thought it was some kind of joke on this episode

  • Hold guests to account more please. Challenge

Regularly listen to the podcast. Just had to grit my teeth listening to Anne Applebaum and her very one-sided views on autocracy, and the dangers of foreign countries meddling in the sovereignty of other countries.

On discussing the history of democracy in Latin America, there was the expected attack on Venezuela (Anne is let’s it be known she is close to the opposition) but what really irks me is that she mentions China, Russia and Iran, fair enough without ANY mention of the numerous interfer... more

  • Adverts

An opportunity to hear influential ‘global thinkers’ discuss deeply significant topics but - all credibility is lost when the discussions are interrupted by adverts for crypto currency and the gambling industry.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Novelist Erica Wagner - Washington Roebling and the Art of Life Writing
Q: How did you approach the balance between factual history and the interior life you imagined for Washington and Emily?
I treated the historical records as a scaffold and used my own research and imagination to fill in the gaps, aiming to preserve the essence of the real people while letting their inner experiences emerge through narrative moments.
Novelist Erica Wagner - Washington Roebling and the Art of Life Writing
Q: Erica, why did you decide to write Wash as a companion piece to your biography of Washington Roebling and what does fiction offer that biography cannot?
Fiction allows a writer to inhabit the inner life of a person when records are limited, to reveal emotional truth and moments of reckoning that biography cannot always capture, while still honoring historical context and evidence.
Jessamy Hibberd – How to Free Your Mind From Overthinking
Q: What is the biggest immediate impact one habit can have?
The core rule is not to think about things when you're feeling bad; broader advice adds that accepting life as it is and adjusting expectations can markedly improve mood and reduce overthinking.
Jessamy Hibberd – How to Free Your Mind From Overthinking
Q: What exactly does choosing your response to thoughts look like in a stressful real-life situation?
Start by noticing the spotlight of attention, pause to see what's there, then either step out of the thought or shift mood before engaging with it; in urgent cases you may need to gradually remove the thought's hold by mindful or neutral activities, then re-engage with challenging the thought when mood improves.
Holistic Psychologist Nicole LePera – Reparenting the Inner Child
Q: How do you determine whether you've done enough healing or risk becoming addicted to the process?
Healing requires balance between rest and continued growth, recognizing that the nervous system adapts over time, and that flexibility and compassionate self-regulation are key; backsliding can occur under stress, so the goal is sustained but adaptable progress.
