  • Ads Break In to Conversation

Great content but awful intrusive ads. Sadly, have to turn off this podcast. Consider an intro to ads. Respect the listeners.

  • McDonald’s and HSBC advertisers? Sort it out

In disbelief that at the top of the episode for leading environmentalist Philip Lymbery (Farmageddon, Dead Zones) there is a McDonalds advert for a sausage sandwich breakfast. What an insult. Awful to advertise that regardless of who the guest is but I actually thought it was some kind of joke on this episode

  • Hold guests to account more please. Challenge

Regularly listen to the podcast. Just had to grit my teeth listening to Anne Applebaum and her very one-sided views on autocracy, and the dangers of foreign countries meddling in the sovereignty of other countries.

On discussing the history of democracy in Latin America, there was the expected attack on Venezuela (Anne is let’s it be known she is close to the opposition) but what really irks me is that she mentions China, Russia and Iran, fair enough without ANY mention of the numerous interfer... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Mark Williamson – How To Live a Happier Life
Q: How can we disagree without damaging relationships?
By validating the other person's perspective, using open questions, and focusing on shared goals rather than accusations.
Mark Williamson – How To Live a Happier Life
Q: What was Mark most cynical about when he started, and did those beliefs prove unfounded?
He was skeptical about mindfulness, gratitude, and vulnerability, but those practices proved life-changing once explored with openness.
Mark Williamson – How To Live a Happier Life
Q: Is there a point where cultivating happiness becomes a distraction from bigger structural problems?
Yes, but the approach is to couple personal well-being with advocacy for policy changes; happiness work should empower people to contribute to systemic improvements, not replace them.
M. John Harrison - The End of Everything
Q: What led you to write a novel that fuses catastrophe with satire and a speculative aliens concept?
Harrison explains that he has long been interested in how imaginative fiction can surface metaphors for current crises, and he deliberately blends genres to keep readers unsettled and engaged, using the alien artifact as a vehicle to examine cultural and epistemological breakdowns.
Novelist Elodie Harper – Boudicca's Daughter
Q: Why write from the daughters' perspectives rather than focusing solely on Boudicca?
To illuminate less-documented voices of history, provide a multi-faceted view of the rebellion, and explore family dynamics and gendered power within a colonial context.
