  • McDonald’s and HSBC advertisers? Sort it out

In disbelief that at the top of the episode for leading environmentalist Philip Lymbery (Farmageddon, Dead Zones) there is a McDonalds advert for a sausage sandwich breakfast. What an insult. Awful to advertise that regardless of who the guest is but I actually thought it was some kind of joke on this episode

  • Hold guests to account more please. Challenge

Regularly listen to the podcast. Just had to grit my teeth listening to Anne Applebaum and her very one-sided views on autocracy, and the dangers of foreign countries meddling in the sovereignty of other countries.

On discussing the history of democracy in Latin America, there was the expected attack on Venezuela (Anne is let’s it be known she is close to the opposition) but what really irks me is that she mentions China, Russia and Iran, fair enough without ANY mention of the numerous interfer... more

  • Adverts

An opportunity to hear influential ‘global thinkers’ discuss deeply significant topics but - all credibility is lost when the discussions are interrupted by adverts for crypto currency and the gambling industry.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Natalie Haynes and Robin Ince - The Myth of Medea, Reimagined
Q: Why do you think retellings of classical myths remain popular for modern readers?
Because these stories are malleable and reflect the times they're read in, allowing new interpretations that address contemporary gender, social, and political concerns.
Neuroscientist Paul Goldsmith – How to Thrive in a World We Weren’t Made For
Q: If listeners take one idea from your book, what perspective shift do you hope it will be?
That it's not your fault; it's a mismatch between our brain design and the modern world, and understanding this can empower healthier choices.
Neuroscientist Paul Goldsmith – How to Thrive in a World We Weren’t Made For
Q: What does the book recommend as a practical shift for readers to implement now?
Adopt achievable, steady goals with regular feedback, foster meaningful relationships, and balance digital engagement to avoid the online validation trap.
Neuroscientist Paul Goldsmith – How to Thrive in a World We Weren’t Made For
Q: Is that fair?
Yes, the guest explains that many modern challenges arise from a deep-rooted mismatch between ancient brain wiring and contemporary environments, and acknowledging this helps people restructure expectations.
Jennifer Breheny Wallace – Mattering: The Secret to a Life of Deep Connection
Q: What is the core idea behind mattering and why is it more than a feel-good concept?
Mattering is a fundamental human need to feel valued and to contribute to others; it shapes our behavior, resilience, and sense of belonging at home, work, and in communities, and it is supported by research across psychology, sociology, and neuroscience.
