Really great episode exploring an unfamiliar sport (to me). Guest was great and the alternate sport really made me listen for commonality.

  • Very Informative

The guest did a good job of explaining the methods he uses to construct his programs. Also, what was the book he referenced about the 3 zones?

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

317: Q&A
Q: How do you view the relationship between strength in the gym and throwing distance?
It depends on the individual athlete; some may benefit from strength training while others may not. Experience and the type of training exercises used also play a significant role in transferability to throwing performance.
317: Q&A
Q: How do you approach athletes underperforming during competitions due to pressure?
The first thing to address is to let the athlete know you're on their side, as a lot of pressure stems from parents or external factors. Encourage them to perform by providing positive feedback and emphasizing their progress during training.
320: Training by design roundtable
Q: How far in advance do you plan?
It varies, but flexibility is key; having a broad plan while remaining adaptable on a day-to-day basis is crucial.
320: Training by design roundtable
Q: What were the biggest issues and hurdles you had with program design?
Common issues include trying to do too much in workouts, lacking structured progression, and failing to connect effectively with athletes.
323: Career debrief (with Adam Keenan)
Q: What advice do you have for young throwers?
You don't have to be as strong as people think and focus on being a thrower first.
