Not only was I able to annoy my family with tidbits at the beautiful Portuguese medieval sites,... more
Started this podcast wanting to learn more about Portugal as an American only vaguely aware of its complex political and cultural foundations. This podcast more than delivered.
I’m about eight episodes in, covering roughly 800–1000 CE, and the show does a great job presenting Portugal’s early history in a clear and interesting way. The host explains things simply without oversimplifying, and the pacing makes it easy to follow how events connect. A solid listen to understand how the country developed in its early centuries. I fast-forwarded to the current latest episode, #43, and see it is based around 1145 CE. I hope the host continues into more modern history of Portu... more
Made our move to Portugal and was looking for a podcast about Portuguese culture, but found Rob Mendes’ “History of Portugal”. We’ve been traveling through Spain and Portugal, so we’ve been fortunate enough to visit many of the cities and castles/fortresses mentioned in this podcast. I love it!! Keep ‘em coming, Rob 🙌 I’ll be listening :)
