  • The McNamara episode – you guys make a difference

Near the end of the show, you were both somewhat in despair about the effect of your labours on changing the course of history. Perhaps people at the level of McNamara won’t see your writings, but the more that people read them or hear them in lecture halls and are influenced by them, the more difficult it is for leaders to take unwise actions. It’s easier when they know the public is with them, it’s tougher when they know the public is against them.

  • Really well done

I minored in philosophy in school and haven’t had a great way of continuing my studies recreationally until I found this show. It covers the full spectrum of accessible social/cultural philosophy topics to more dense scholarly material. They give endless recommendations to further explore the different subjects in a better way than going down internet wormholes. Thanks

  • Noam Chomsky here!

Quite literally enough said, check it out folks if you want to be a smarter, more informed citizenry. The most ardent critic of capitalism, Karl Marx, began his career in philosophy! Just love it here—so very much needed.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#185: Eleusis in the Spring (Vernal Equinox Special) feat. Joseph Campbell - The Eleusinian Mysteries, the Rites of Orpheus, Fertility and Persephone, the Descent into Hades, and the Resurrection
Q: What is the significance of the Pietroasa bowl in understanding initiation imagery in ancient societies?
Campbell explains that the Pietroasa bowl serves as a concrete focal point for initiatory symbolism, representing how ritual objects can anchor a broader mythic program—connecting material culture to the transmission of esoteric knowledge and the experience of initiation.
#184: Gaza, or How to Normalize Genocide: Keynote Speech by Chris Hedges at The Sanctuary for Independent Media
Q: How should journalists balance reporting on Gaza with protecting free speech and campus discussion while facing censorship?
Journalists should hold power accountable, seek to uplift voices of the oppressed, and resist campus and media censorship that silences critical truth-telling about genocide and imperial policy.
#184: Gaza, or How to Normalize Genocide: Keynote Speech by Chris Hedges at The Sanctuary for Independent Media
Q: What is the most effective way for individuals to support Palestinians today beyond donations?
Support through targeted organizations like Palestine Children's Defense Fund and grassroots solidarity efforts; engage locally in community organizing, including in universities and public spaces, to sustain pressure and awareness.
#184: Gaza, or How to Normalize Genocide: Keynote Speech by Chris Hedges at The Sanctuary for Independent Media
Q: Based on your experience, what is the best avenue for mass action to resist authoritarian trends—online organizing or physical presence in communities?
Physical community and mass organizing are essential; online activism alone is insufficient and can be absorbed by the corporate state. Building inclusive, compassionate, locally grounded movements and using strikes or other collective actions are key to challenging entrenched power.
#180: Michael Parenti Tribute: The Darker Truths of Empire (November 2005)
Q: What can we do to make effective changes?
We must organize, educate, and create a new climate of opinion to mobilize support and impact decision-makers.
