Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Col. John Spencer – on Ukraine, Urban Warfare and James Bond
Q: What do you think the impact of both case studies and storytelling about warfare is to the warfighter?
The impact is immense as they shape perceptions of warfare and the experiences of soldiers.
Col. John Spencer – on Ukraine, Urban Warfare and James Bond
Q: Can you talk a little bit about your recent informative trip to Ukraine?
I just got back from my fourth research trip into Ukraine since the full-scale invasion and focused on the Battle of Mariupol, interviewing veterans and gathering stories.
The 99 Call – How the British Lions Bit Back
Q: What, over what period of time did all these matches take place?
These matches occurred over weeks, with warm-ups and test matches spaced out during the tour.
Castle Itter: The Weirdest Battle in History
Q: Do we know if any of the players in our story, including the American units, were involved at all in the liberation of Dachau, which must have come pretty soon after that?
It's a great question. The events at Castle Itter and the liberation of Dachau occurred almost simultaneously, but I don't think those directly involved in the battle at the castle would have been part of the direct liberation of Dachau; however, they may have gone there in the week or two after.
Royal Pains
Q: Is it my imagination that the US and UK standing shoulder to shoulder is better or more effective with a Democrat in the White House and a conservative government in Westminster?
The best relations between the United States and the UK were between Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan. Blair and Bush were also close, showing that the political alignment can vary, but in general, there seems to be a better relationship with a Democrat in the US and a conservative in the UK.
