I feel like the show is rushed. A lot of good questions are posed but like in the 2nd show, they’re answered once by the guest and they go onto the next question. I feel like any one of those questions could be a topic for a longer discussion where the guest as well as all the hosts could chime in on. Maybe it would be better if a few of those questions were selected as topics and have a group discussion on each with everyone contributing. Also, I feel the main host is trying to be too fast ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Hi-Fi Five Episode 25: Measurements for Subjectivist Audiophiles
Q: Question one. Can you give an example of a situation where objective measurements reveal a problem the ear might miss?
Measurements show room-induced bass irregularities or subwoofer limitations that the ear cannot easily discern, such as a bass dip caused by room modes or a subwoofer that distorts badly at low frequencies, which helps guide corrective actions like adjusting placement or rolling off problematic bands.
The Hi-Fi Five Episode 21: Guest Gary Gill, Capital Audiofest
Q: How can you increase ROI for exhibitors?
Gary suggests more aggressive marketing, influencer engagement, and scalable display options like eight-by-eight static spaces to extend presence beyond traditional rooms.
The Hi-Fi Five Episode 21: Guest Gary Gill, Capital Audiofest
Q: Are audio shows financially rational for exhibitors?
ROI varies by stakeholder; exposure and leads can be valuable, though direct on-site sales are rare for high-end gear; long-term brand awareness is a key payoff.
The Hi-Fi Five Episode 21: Guest Gary Gill, Capital Audiofest
Q: Is it fair to judge a component in a hotel room exhibit?
Not entirely; room size and setup heavily influence sound, so a show room can give a rough sense but is not a definitive judge of performance.
The Hi-Fi Five Episode 21: Guest Gary Gill, Capital Audiofest
Q: Are there too many audio shows?
The panel agrees there is overlap and scheduling pressure, but the need remains for accessible regional events and for brands to justify presence given travel costs and ROI concerns.
