  • Humorous and informative

Or more like hilarious and indispensable at times... If you want to learn something new, or better yet, if you want to take part in undoing some of the insanity of the “war in drugs” and unraveling some of the blatant, bold-faced lies that brought about this very damaging prohibition still very much in effect most places

The complexities of retail cannabis in Washington State with Kevin Heriderich, co-owner of the House of Cannabis retail chain
Q: What regulatory challenges stand out most in daily operations, and how do you stay compliant while remaining profitable?
Frequent rule changes and inconsistent enforcement across towns create a moving target for compliance; signs, permits, and banking-related issues require constant attention and sometimes costly misalignments with local officers.

Q: How do high excise taxes and 280E affect consumer behavior and your competition with the illicit market?
Taxes push prices up, making legal product less affordable for some customers and inadvertently keeping the illicit market viable; if federal legalization reduces these tax burdens, the legal market could become more price-competitive.
The complexities of retail cannabis in Washington State with Kevin Heriderich, co-owner of the House of Cannabis retail chain
Q: Kevin, how would you describe the overall health of Washington's cannabis retail market right now? Is it stable, struggling, or more complicated?
The market is highly nuanced and varies by operation; mom-and-pop shops and smaller chains face different pressures than larger players, with many retailers on the edge or at a breaking point due to high taxes, regulatory complexity, and capital constraints.
The state and struggle of the psychedelics reform community and efforts to educate the public, with Leo Russell
Q: What do you see as double standards for women in the psychedelic space?
Leo discusses the unique challenges women face in leadership within the psychedelic movement, feeling that they often get penalized for being assertive or influential, and notes that women leaders have fewer role models and face double standards compared to men.
The state and struggle of the psychedelics reform community and efforts to educate the public, with Leo Russell
Q: Can you just unpack a little bit why you have such frustration with the Indigenous claims about the integrity of the decrim movement versus legalization?
Leo expresses discontent with the narrative surrounding Indigenous claims in decriminalization, noting that she sees the decrim movement as somewhat disconnected from legitimate support and reflecting a commercial interest rather than purely cultural or spiritual integrity.
