Former professional rugby player John Daniell and journalist Glenn McConnell travel New Zealand trying to find the rulebook for how to be a man in 2021. Along the way they meet everyone from an All Black to a Tinder-profile guru, from a non-binary father to an historian of Kiwi bloke-ness. It’s a wild ride.

Finding this an interesting listen so far ,however when you claim that women look to men to protect them you fail to add why. Women need “good “ men to protect them from “bad “ men. But what women really need is not to have to live in fear of being raped or murdered and therefore not need a “protector”. Especially when the “protector” sometimes ends up being a perpetrator.
We’ve come a long way. Thank goodness. I really enjoyed this delve into being a man, NZ style. It ain’t easy, but they’re my brothers and as an older bloke, it has got easier - something I wasn’t told growing up. Hope the women listen to this series too. Ngā mihi. Tom
Please have mercy with the song it’s really horrible but, great pod cast though.
This series covers some important issues, some harder than others (including mental health/suicide)
This a worthwhile and timely listen.
Big thanks to those who shared their stories.
Kia kaha
I am really enjoying this - thoughtful and caring, with great presenters and access. Doesn’t demonise masculinity- just the bad elements.
