  • Loads of great info

I look forward to listening to this podcast. I really enjoyed the one about soda and my husband and I nixed purchasing Coke and Diet Coke the other day because, in his words, “it’s a bullet to the brain.” He didn’t listen to the podcast but heard me talking about it and I guess it stuck. We saved our brains and money too.

  • Life changing education

Brilliant information for keeping us healthy, to age well and to enable positive action towards a healthier future. I heard Dr Helena speaking at a business lunch over 15 years ago and she gave us the advice to replace the word Can’t with ‘how can I. This changed my life. Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Deep dive into dementia (EP11)
Q: Is there a genetic component like ApoE4 that affects risk, and can lifestyle choices offset it?
ApoE4 increases risk, especially with other factors like diabetes or smoking, but optimistic aging and regular exercise can mitigate risk and influence outcomes even for carriers.
Deep dive into dementia (EP11)
Q: How do menopause and estradiol levels influence dementia risk, and can hormone therapy help?
Estradiol supports brain energy and protective functions; declines during menopause can raise risk, but menopausal hormone therapy may reduce risk for some women, especially if started appropriately and tailored to individual history.
Deep dive into dementia (EP11)
Q: What is the difference between dementia and Alzheimer's disease?
Alzheimer's is a subtype of dementia; dementia is an umbrella term for many brain diseases that impair cognition, with Alzheimer's being the most common form.
People are more powerful than pills (EP7)
Q: Is loneliness as damaging as smoking, and should introverts try to become extroverts for health benefits?
The host explains that loneliness and social isolation are not the same; increasing meaningful connections is beneficial, but introverts do not need to become extroverts. The emphasis is on authentic, fulfilling relationships and feeling connected when needed, rather than forcing social styles.
Feeling is healing (EP8)
Q: When it comes to expressive writing, is typing as effective as handwriting?
Typing and handwriting can be similarly effective for expressive writing as long as the writer is emotionally engaged and reflective; typing may help with speed and organization, while handwriting can enhance reflection and personal connection.
