  • Encouraging and educational!

I am pregnant with my first child-40 weeks today! This podcast has been so encouraging throughout my pregnancy! It has taught me that there are endless versions of a normal pregnancy, labor, and birth. To hear from so many women conquering their fears through childbirth is amazing! I know I can be one of those women! The episodes interviewing midwives about their plan of care for abnormal/unexpected events are very helpful. I also appreciate that so many women have had seamless births for some o... more

  • Katelyn interrupts

I love the stories and the information I’ve gathered. However something I find difficult to handle in my opinion is the host’s tendency to interrupt and talk over her guests. It feels very uncomfortable to hear. I would still recommend this podcast to friends who are interested in home birth but add this disclaimer.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep 316: Holding the Plan Loosely: Pamela’s Birth Story of Trust and Change
Q: How did you handle prodromal labor and the moments when plans started to feel out of control?
Pamela explains recognizing prodromal labor, the floods in Texas, and personal events that converged to require surrender rather than control. She emphasizes the importance of letting go, relying on faith, and remaining flexible about not matching the ideal birth script, which ultimately helped her stay calm and focused during labor.
Ep 315: From Hyperemesis to Homebirth
Q: What would you say to the mom who is finding herself in the throes of pregnancy in a difficult situation?
First of all, that it's not your fault, that you are enough. You did enough. And if you didn't prep for pregnancy, that's not the reason. You can do it. You are strong enough. Just hold on.
Ep 305: A Primal First Time Homebirth With Sara Middleton
Q: What did it look like to begin the birthing process?
Sara described feeling waves of menstrual-like cramps signaling the start of labor.
Ep 304: Cross-Country Homebirth
Q: How did the birth experience change for you as you became more empowered in your pregnancies?
The more empowered I felt, the more control I had over my births, especially after feeling the contrast between past experiences and my later natural deliveries.
Ep 304: Cross-Country Homebirth
Q: What did you do after the birth center? Did you continue on with birth centers?
After the birth center, when my fifth child was six months old, I found another midwife who delivered in a hospital, but she was more hands-off, allowing a natural birthing experience.
