  • My kind of nerds

I don’t remember how I heard about Hailing Frequencies Open, but I’m glad I accepted the hail. This is a hilarious group of Star Trek fans discussing all things final frontier. The number of times they’ve said things about the franchise that I’ve thought myself has been uncanny… and slightly unnerving. (One of them may be a Betazoid, I’m just saying.) If you love a good-natured and irreverent look at Star Trek, this is for you. Make it so.

Slash originated in fan circles and zines as a way to explore romantic and sexual relationships between Kirk and Spock, often framed as a test of boundaries. It later split into gen and explicit branches, with archives and conventions preserving and debating the material, and the concept broadened as online platforms made it more accessible.
