  • A tough road I don’t wish on anyone

I’m a US based mom who just lost my child to cancer. It has been a crazy few weeks of roller coaster emotions, trying to understand everything that has transpired in these last few months, and wrapping my mind around what’s next. Hearing the stories of other parents who have faced similar experiences is comforting although this journey is not one I’d wish for anyone. It’s all too fresh and raw for me right now but one day I hope to be living with my grief better. Thank you for this podcast. Than... more

  • A great listen for all of us

Reallly enjoyed this chat between Sinead & Orlaith. Sinead is my favourite host & always excellent on every podcast she is involved in but most especially in interviews & making people clearly feel so comfortable that they feel they can speak openly. I have admired Orlaith as a long time follower & this conversation was a lovely listen. It was hard to hear all her family went through but I have no doubt her openness in this conversation will help families in similar situations. I hope the boys c... more

Financial Advice for Families Fighting Childhood Cancer - Richard Ferris and LIA CEO Joanne Keane &
Q: What surprised you most about families facing a cancer diagnosis in terms of finances?
Many families are overwhelmed by fear and missing out on using existing policies or benefits because they don't realize what they're entitled to, which is where the volunteers help by identifying cover and guiding claims without selling products.
Financial Advice for Families Fighting Childhood Cancer - Richard Ferris and LIA CEO Joanne Keane &
Q: Tell us about the Financial Advice Programme and who can access it.
The programme offers free, one-to-one financial advice from volunteer advisers who are part of the LIA network, matched to families through Childhood Cancer Ireland, to help them examine their current financial situation and plan for both short- and long-term needs.
Young Adult Medullablastoma Recovery - Ella Farrell
Q: What do you think the next 12 months will look like for you?
The next year will focus on rebuilding, with survivorship support and rehabilitation helping me regain strength, balance, and energy, while I pursue studies and potentially a master's degree, all while nurturing relationships and planning for the future.
Young Adult Medullablastoma Recovery - Ella Farrell
Q: Has it taught you that we are capable of so much more than we assume?
Yes. I discovered that enduring intensive treatment, staying resilient through days of extreme sickness, and still finishing college showed me an inner strength I didn't know I had. It also reinforced the importance of listening to my body and advocating for myself to get timely care.
Psychosocial Supports: What more do our AYA patients need? - Aileen O'Dwyer
Q: What sparked your focus on psychosocial needs for AYAs with cancer?
Watching Phoebe navigate not just the disease but the social, educational, and identity-related challenges after diagnosis inspired me to study how these factors impact long-term well-being and what supports are missing.
