  • Great insights!

That was a fabulous interview with Amanda Knox. She shares really helpful wisdom there that I personally really needed. And such kindness always from Róisín Ingle! I’ve been a fan of Róisín for over a decade. Two warm, intelligent, strong and generous women. Thank you!

  • Thank you

For an Irish person living overseas this podcast is just fantastic. I am transported back home to a good afternoon with my girlfriends, and for that, thank you. I have learned so much since I started listening not to mention the new list of book recommendations that I’m eager to get through. I’m thrilled to have found The Women’s Podcast.

  • Let the guests speak

I used to love this podcast, but Roisin’s constant interrupting & talking over guests is annoying.

  • Love this pod,but…

I adore this podcast but giving a platform to someone claiming to be a nutritionist (she’s not) and who trots around supermarkets demonising food and spouting rehashed nonsense about additives, all the while selling an online ‘course’ was a disappointing turn of events for this show. Don’t judge this pod on that one show, it’s usually excellent!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ailbhe Smyth: Life lessons on turning 80
Q: How do you define happiness at 80?
Happiness comes from health, meaningful work, loving relationships, and a sense of purpose; she feels happiest when she can contribute and be part of a community delivering positive change.
Ailbhe Smyth: Life lessons on turning 80
Q: What big lesson have you learned over the years?
The importance of using your voice, pursuing activism, and recognizing that you don't have to do it alone; collective effort can sustain momentum and create lasting social change.
Jan Carson on the Troubles, trauma and faith
Q: What has the response been like to your portrayal of evangelical communities, and how do you navigate backlash?
Carson discusses backlashes from her own community but emphasizes nuance, the importance of not stereotyping, and the value of continued dialogue with readers who see themselves reflected in her work.
Jan Carson on the Troubles, trauma and faith
Q: How do the two halves of the archipelago—inhabited islands and the Far Side—function as metaphors for trauma?
The archipelago mirrors how society stores and avoids dealing with trauma; the Far Side represents the unspoken, darker aspects of history, with specific islands like Tom's Hard and Middle Flat illustrating suicide and resignation syndromes tied to women's experiences of the Troubles.
Jan Carson on the Troubles, trauma and faith
Q: What sparked the idea for Few and Far Between, and how did it evolve into a full novel?
An email from a friend during a difficult residency sparked the Genesis of the book, leading to a concept about Loch Né, islands forming if the lake were drained, and gradually expanding into a multi-generational story about trauma, gender, and community in a Northern Irish context.
