Ghost Story

Wondery | Pineapple Street Studios
True Crime

Host Tristan Redman is a seasoned journalist who doesn’t believe in ghosts. But weird things happened in the bedroom he lived in as a teenager. When he discovers years later that subsequent occupants of the same house have been visited by the ghost of a faceless woman, he’s curious. Because it just so happens that Tristan’s childhood home is right next door to the house where his wife’s great grandmother, Naomi Dancy, was murdered in 1937 – killed by two gunshots to the face. Could there be a connection between the ghost and the murder? Tristan decides to investigate and soon finds himself going where no son-in-law should go, deep into his wife’s family history, asking questions no one wants answered. more

  • The elephant in the Room (in the house beside the room where it happened)

Production good, narrator good and a bit of star power (😉) but there is one agonising question that hampers my enjoyment so far (I’m on ep. 2): why on Earth would the ghost be haunting the house next door? It looks like reaching. more

  • Captivating start but a complete cop out by the end

Thoroughly intriguing start gives way to Tristan succumbing to overt pressure from the Dancy family to adhere to the family narrative that Dr John Dancy was a brilliant hero, and that he had nothing to do with the death of his two wives in the middle of the night while he was there. If you get through to the end, be sure to head to Crime Analyst podcast to hear expert analysis of what probably REALLY happened.

  • Great production but the ending is an insult

Wow I was gripped to this, felt it was such an interesting story. Great quality production. It felt like the Dancy family didn’t want to believe Dr John Dancy had done this! I have to say I felt the ending was an insult, I won’t spoil it for new listeners. But when you have 7 or 8 experts telling you Dr John Dancy did this yet you don’t wish to believe it. and decide to end it the way they did. What about defending Dr Naomi Dancy’s name? This family clearly still have the outdated views about wo... more

  • Very Disappointed

Why were Dr. John Dancy’s explanations accepted as fact? That both of his wives died under such conditions is not a coincidence. Shortly after the first wife’s murder, he contacts a crime writer to gloat about how “the killer” did it. The writer was disturbed by the conversation, contacted the authorities and was basically ignored. No value was assigned to the information she provided just like no value was given to the lives of these poor women. They had no value. Not even the Dancy descendants... more
