I love an investigation into people who lie, I love listening to a character be built up and then picked apart- I love wondering why people lie like this. But I couldn’t stand how the family are a mess because ‘oooh nooo he didn’t actually go to Cambridge:(‘. I can understand being upset about someon... more

I found this podcast incredibly irresponsible. Especially dragging out peoples objections to being featured in the podcast and ultimately including them when they’ve asked to be excluded. Speculating as to why someone didn’t want to participate is also disrespectful. Perhaps there are mental health issues or Biggar issues being tackled that folks don’t want to be aired publicly. I found this aspect incredibly disrespectful on the part of the podcast creators.
Dr Naomi was definitely forgotten in the process of upholding John’s ‘reputation’. To end with a psychic instead of reviewing the input of several highly reputable experts when it comes to analysing murders says enough about the integrity of the journalist telling the story.
There were so many ways for this project to go off the rails: so many ways to make an audience uncomfortable or skeptical, but because it's carried out with candor, respect, and thoughtfulness, it stays pitch perfect at every turn. It's riveting: spooky, tragic and even funny at times, the host never loses his ability to shift between those things with an appreciation for everyone involved, including his listeners.
