  • My opinion is the only opinion

I’ve listened to a few episodes now. While I respect the accomplishments of Jeff, he is extremely opinionated that his opinion is the only opinion allowed.

Running is adventure and fun and it seems like Jeff wants the fun and adventure to be only from his scope of view. His disdain for Satisfy culture (to be fair I am not a satisfy fan… I don’t want to pay $150 for a cotton T-shirt) his disdain for running influencers, and comparing social media influencers to political leaders is very cringe ... more

  • Genuine trail talk

Jeff’s authenticity and curiosity is a welcome reprieve from the countless running bro and boss babe podcasts that fail to connect with the average person. At time when the sport is blowing up, he keeps it real. No-frills conversations that focus on the people behind the sport and what makes them tick. The ultra world needs more people like Jeff.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Sage Canaday on Competition, Content, and the Future of Running
Q: What are Sage's thoughts on the influencer ecosystem in running and its impact on racing decisions?
He notes the blurring lines between athlete and influencer, emphasizes the value of social media for sponsorships and career longevity, and discusses how teams and races sometimes align with sponsor-driven events, while cautioning about the risk of prioritizing optics over training quality.
Sage Canaday on Competition, Content, and the Future of Running
Q: How did Sage approach turning professional and securing sponsorship early in his career?
Sage explains he started in college, joined an early sponsorship program (Hanson's Brooks Distance Project), and then built sponsorships through a mix of performance and visibility, including self-coaching, coaching others, and leveraging the growing role of video and online presence.
The FKT That Took Bob Stewart 3 Tries to Finish
Q: What does finishing alone mean to you after such a public journey?
Finish is anticlimactic but meaningful; the journey and self-reliance matter most, and finishing solo underscores the personal nature of FKTs, rather than a celebratory crowd.
The FKT That Took Bob Stewart 3 Tries to Finish
Q: How did sleep and rest play into the final push?
He alternated between short naps and continuous movement, often opting for one hour sleeps early on and shorter naps later, using daylight as a reset to regain focus, and finishing with a dawn breakthrough.
The FKT That Took Bob Stewart 3 Tries to Finish
Q: Did you have fear or nerves going into this third time attempting it?
Yes, there was anxiety due to the height of the challenge, the 65,000 feet of vertical gain, and the overgrowth; but preparation and daylight helped mitigate those nerves and he leaned into a rigorous plan.
