  • Thought in decline

It’s hard to listen to Mr. Zakaria work to describe the actions of Trump as motivated by anything other than greed and whatever the current condition of his cognitive ability. He is not thoughtful, not strategic, not taking a new approach to Xi. He’s lying down and prepared to surrender for his own gain because he knows he’s in an inferior position. It is concerning that Zakaria is projecting onto Trump rather than reporting the clear nature of our situation. This is not academic analysis, it’s ... more

  • As an Iranian…

I’d like to tell Ms. Annemarie Slaughter to please not speak on behalf of Iranians, especially within Iran. First off, they have absolutely very minimal internet to communicate with the world, and for someone to say that they are more aligned now with their government is just purely false. My family lives under a near totalitarian government, and what they want more than anything is to topple them.

Please challenge your guests on these topics, which they say so non-chalantly, Mr. Zakaria.

  • Obscene

So the American media and its Talking Heads are going to treat this aggression in the same way it treated Iraq? Is it that you’re stupid or is it that you think we are all stupid?

  • Fareed’s extreme bias.

I cannot listen anymore. Up until today, I’ve had utmost respect for fared, even when he had guests who had their own agenda that went unchallenged. However, today’s take was pure propaganda. Seriously, fareed, Israel did not pressure Trump not anything. Even if you believe that, where is your proof? Happily unsubscribed.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Global Public Square: Navigating War, AI, and the World Cup
Q: What is the role of Iran in the current global energy security landscape?
Iran's control of the Strait of Hormuz could be leveraged to influence global energy prices and geopolitical leverage, complicating Western strategic interests and creating new regional dynamics.
US and Iran Close in on a Deal; SpaceX’s Grand Ambitions; The AI Job Panic
Q: Molly, what is the nature of jobs AI will impact first, and what are the political implications?
Molly describes the 'messy middle' where computer-based cognitive tasks are displaced, with significant political and social consequences if workers who are displaced lack pathways to new opportunities; also notes that overall GDP may be affected, but transitions could be painful for certain pockets of workers.
US and Iran Close in on a Deal; SpaceX’s Grand Ambitions; The AI Job Panic
Q: Ian, what does this mean in practice if the ceasefire extends and the Strait opens—will it likely close again?
Ian responds that while extending the ceasefire and open strait access is possible in the short term, the deeper issues—nuclear ambitions, missiles, proxies, and regime nature—remain unresolved and risk returning to the status quo if not addressed.
US and Iran Close in on a Deal; SpaceX’s Grand Ambitions; The AI Job Panic
Q: Karim, what is your understanding of what is going to happen today or tomorrow or in the next few days?
Karim explains there is a tension between the US wanting to avoid any cash flow to Iran and the reality that Tehran may receive some unfreezing of assets, which complicates the blockade dynamics and makes the outcome uncertain.
Navigating Global Diplomacy: Challenges and Opportunities
Q: Why did the Biden administration hesitate to re-enter the JCPOA and pursue a longer, stronger deal?
Rhodes suggests political considerations and anticipated blowback within the US, including Democratic hesitancy and a desire to secure a broader, longer-term agreement, which ultimately delayed reentry and contributed to Iran's hardening position.
