  • Thought in decline

It’s hard to listen to Mr. Zakaria work to describe the actions of Trump as motivated by anything other than greed and whatever the current condition of his cognitive ability. He is not thoughtful, not strategic, not taking a new approach to Xi. He’s lying down and prepared to surrender for his own gain because he knows he’s in an inferior position. It is concerning that Zakaria is projecting onto Trump rather than reporting the clear nature of our situation. This is not academic analysis, it’s ... more

  • As an Iranian…

I’d like to tell Ms. Annemarie Slaughter to please not speak on behalf of Iranians, especially within Iran. First off, they have absolutely very minimal internet to communicate with the world, and for someone to say that they are more aligned now with their government is just purely false. My family lives under a near totalitarian government, and what they want more than anything is to topple them.

Please challenge your guests on these topics, which they say so non-chalantly, Mr. Zakaria.

    Thank... more

  • Obscene

So the American media and its Talking Heads are going to treat this aggression in the same way it treated Iraq? Is it that you’re stupid or is it that you think we are all stupid?

  • Fareed’s extreme bias.

I cannot listen anymore. Up until today, I’ve had utmost respect for fared, even when he had guests who had their own agenda that went unchallenged. However, today’s take was pure propaganda. Seriously, fareed, Israel did not pressure Trump not anything. Even if you believe that, where is your proof? Happily unsubscribed.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Trump’s Korea Pivot, Chinese AI, Summer of Heat
Q: Today on the program, why did the United States cut short a military drill with a major Asian ally?
Victor Cha explains the decision was tied to signaling toward North Korea and the possibility of a future diplomatic engagement, with debates about whether it affects deterrence or opens room for a deal.
Trump’s Escape, 5 Years of Taliban Rule, AI Mania
Q: Tell us about reflections on the chaotic withdrawal and the Biden administration's handling.
The guest noted that while the Trump administration signaled an exit, the Biden administration executed the largest humanitarian airlift and that both administrations share responsibility; they emphasized the importance of learning from the withdrawal and continuing to support Afghan allies.
How Iranians are Responding to War; Does Iran want a deal?
Q: What kind of deal does Iran want here?
Iran likely seeks the bigger deal to secure sanctions relief and preserve strategic leverage, including control over key regional assets, while recognizing that achieving it may require navigating internal US divisions and choosing the right moment to compromise.
Ken Burns on 250 years since the Declaration of Independence; The economics of the AI revolution; How the war with Iran fundamentally reshaped the Middle East
Q: What is the strategic outlook in the Middle East after the Iran war?
The conflict has reshaped alliances, with Iran seeking to leverage strategic chokepoints like the Strait of Hormuz, while regional powers recalibrate security and energy strategies; the panel emphasizes a continued period of volatility and shifting power balances.
Ken Burns on 250 years since the Declaration of Independence; The economics of the AI revolution; How the war with Iran fundamentally reshaped the Middle East
Q: How does AI affect the global economy and what barriers exist to widespread adoption?
AI drives productivity but requires massive compute power; the bottlenecks are supply chains for chips, power distribution, and the cost of compute. There is a push to democratize access to AI to avoid widening inequality between large entities and smaller organizations.
