  • What a gem (the show and also Blair)

Every single episode of Relationscapes punches way above its weight. Every single episode is more powerful than I could ever imagine. Even the ones that I don’t think will interest me! It is because Blair is one of the greatest interviews on the mic, and I am not just saying that. His engagement with his guests is next level. Tell your friends about this show. And don’t just listen to an episode you think applies to you. Listen to them all.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Radical Origins of Pride Month (with Kaila Story)
Q: Why is the Pride flag legitimacy contested within LGBTQ communities according to Kaila Story?
The discussion suggests that Pride's symbolism has been complicated by racism, colorism, and transphobia within the movement, leading to calls for a more inclusive and justice-centered solidarity rather than a purely celebratory, corporate-friendly narrative.
The Radical Origins of Pride Month (with Kaila Story)
Q: What is autoethnography and how does it ground Kaila Story's work?
Autoethnography is a qualitative research method where the researcher reflects on their own lived experiences and links them to wider social and political structures, allowing personal narrative to illuminate larger patterns and injustices.
MINI EPISODE: The Sitcomification of Holly Brown
Q: What drew you to tell your family's story in a podcast, and how do you balance privacy with honesty?
Holly explains that she wanted to gain a sense of control over her life and to illuminate the complexity of addiction, secrets, and reconciliation. The format allows for self-reflection, conversations with siblings, and the chance to meet relatives while acknowledging the risk of exposing private moments, all while aiming to help listeners feel less alone in their own difficult family experiences.
The Slow-Motion Inevitability of Becoming Yourself (with Kevin James Thornton)
Q: What was the turning point in leaving the fundamentalist life?
It was a gradual, painful process, a slow walk out rather than a single moment, with college exposing him to a world where being gay could be lived openly and friendships could thrive without moral panic.
The Slow-Motion Inevitability of Becoming Yourself (with Kevin James Thornton)
Q: How did the TikTok persona relate to the deeper, heavier material in the book?
Thornton explains that the autotune and funny clips were a coping mechanism that helped him process pain, while the book provides the context and hard truths that those lighter videos glossed over.
