  • Refreshing

At a time when we have been more divided than ever podcasts like yours offer hope to the women of faith. Your message is that we can still embody our compassion, values and feminism, and that they don’t need to be fractioned. Thank you!

  • You’re Confused

I am not a fan of Calvinism either, but you have confused him with Martin Luther who would wake his confessor BEFORE he discovered grace. The point you’re trying to make about the body being bad comes from the 2nd century Gnostics. And that’s just the beginning of your confusion.

  • Encouraging and inspiring

I’ve enjoyed so many episodes of this podcast over the past few years. Some of the interviews have helped me process my own faith journey and find encouragement knowing others have had similar experiences in churches. Other episodes have taught me about experiences and views I’d never considered before. It’s a fantastic podcast.

  • Thank you!

    You are my sanity.

Also, it’s never okay to beat a woman to the point where she requires hospital emergency room treatment just because she voted differently from her family. Only a perfectly Christ-like man could be safely entrusted with headship over the women in his family, and no man on Earth is perfectly Christ-like. This toxic and all-too-frequently used excuse that provides cover and sanction for abuse needs to go. It should have gone long ago.

Missionary Kids and White Evangelicalism
Q: How do we adopt a position of humility in our criticism of cultural beliefs?
It's essential to be cognizant of our own biases and remember that many people have inherited their beliefs; we should maintain compassion and empathy towards them while challenging harmful practices.
Missionary Kids and White Evangelicalism
Q: Have you had pushback regarding your ideas on the myth of calling?
Mostly positive responses from other missionary kids and some missionaries, but some disagreement from individuals who haven't read the book.
Missionary Kids and White Evangelicalism
Q: Can you talk to me a little bit about the myth of calling and how kids are kind of like sacrificed on this idea of martyrdom?
The myth of calling suggests that you can be clearly called by the Lord to do something dramatic without considering other aspects of life, which can lead to unhealthy decisions, like taking children into dangerous situations.
Holy Hurt
Q: What is a quote, mantra, or verse that keeps you going in hard times?
Hillary reflects on the importance of sensory experiences and relational moments rather than specific language, emphasizing the comforting presence of loved ones during hard times.
Holy Hurt
Q: Can you share your personal definition of spirituality and what it means to you?
Hillary describes spirituality as the inborn drive towards connection, meaning-making, and understanding our purpose, which is innate to all humans and not confined by religious boundaries.
