  • Lots of good information, but…

I’ve been listening to this podcast for a few years now. There are are some real gems of information here.

But beware of contacting any of the experts being interviewed here. I contacted a tax expert who was interviewed about pensions about a complicated international government pension situation I had that he had actually touched upon in the interview. I got some useful initial advice, then lots of requests for money for research being undertaken, but very small real results. I ended up solv... more

  • Great content that is ruined with audio quality

The content is great but the uneven sound volume make it barely listenable. The host's sound level is always much higher than that of the guest so I find myself constantly fidgeting with the volume knob going up and down trying not to destroy my hearings. Not good while driving.

So if I could make any constructive criticism would be to invest in better editing, mic placement, and volume leveling software. Uneven sound levels are one of the biggest podcast killers.

  • Overall delightful, only small critiques

I have thoroughly enjoyed about 5 or 6 episodes so far over the past 2 days. Some of the older ones have volume discrepancies between the speakers, which can be a little annoying. Most of them have been great & relatively natural interview type conversations. Some feel a little too short, as it seems difficult to really explain all of the aspects of certain parts of moving or living in another country without rambling, but the grittty details are some of my favorite parts. I usually come away wi... more

Q: So how did you find it, US to UK schooling?
The system is much more formal and sometimes draconian in appearance to a US parent, with clear differences like GCSEs and stricter rules; the key is to be upfront about not knowing and to ask questions whenever needed, which helps both parent and child adjust.
The Secret To Expat Happiness – Building Friendships Abroad
Q: What changes when you move as an adult versus as a child, and do you have a current process for grounding yourself and finding community?
Her current approach centers on knowing what she needs to feel anchored, building communities through meaningful, substantive interactions, and balancing travel with time in place to maintain a sense of home while staying open to new environments.
The Secret To Expat Happiness – Building Friendships Abroad
Q: I want to ask about your approach to establishing yourself in a new place and how that's evolved over time.
She explains that early relocations were more exploratory, but over time she developed a process: identify what feeds her, seek authentic connections, pursue vulnerability, and engage in varied activities (book clubs, volunteering, classes) to meet people who truly enrich her life.
US Expats - How To Get Your Money Out Of The USA (And Why You May Not Want To)
Q: In what scenarios is it advantageous to look at a non-US investment account?
Non-US accounts may be considered when seeking local currency exposure, alternative fee structures, or diversification, but they often come with higher fees, PFIC and reporting issues, and limited access for US citizens.
US Expats - How To Get Your Money Out Of The USA (And Why You May Not Want To)
Q: What do you mean by getting your money out of the USA?
It can mean physically transferring assets to a non-US account or simply shifting investments out of the US dollar to reduce currency risk; both are treated differently and have different regulatory implications.
