Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Top 10 WJ V Take Away Tips | Becki Robertson
Q: Can you explain the RPI and why it's valuable in clinical practice?
RPI offers a proficiency-based view (like an instructional performance benchmark) rather than just where a student sits on a normed scale, helping clinicians determine how well a student would perform in typical classroom tasks and guiding targeted intervention.
Top 10 WJ V Take Away Tips | Becki Robertson
Q: How does the CALP aspect influence evaluation for non-emergent bilingual students?
CALP scores are available across tests and help illuminate academic language proficiency beyond everyday interpersonal language, providing insights into how language skills impact learning and classroom instruction for all students, not just emergent bilinguals.
Top 10 WJ V Take Away Tips | Becki Robertson
Q: What is the biggest change you've noticed moving from the four to the five?
The move to three discrete batteries with a flexible, modular structure; the addition of the Virtual Test Library; and the emphasis on CHC-based interpretation, which allows for more precise targeting of skills and better alignment with classroom demands.
Another Brick in the Wall of Education Systems: Disproportionality | Paul Morgan and Eric Hu
Q: Why is it important to account for multiple explanatory factors when studying disproportionality?
Because simple population share comparisons can be misleading if you don't hold other critical variables constant. By controlling for factors such as achievement, behavior, SES, language status, and school context, we can better determine whether observed disparities are due to bias in identification or to other legitimate differences in need, and therefore design fairer, more effective supports.
Another Brick in the Wall of Education Systems: Disproportionality | Paul Morgan and Eric Hu
Q: Can you describe where some of those misconceptions about disproportionality come from?
Misconceptions largely arose from anecdotal reporting and simple descriptive statistics that suggested overrepresentation of students of color in special education. When researchers started using nationally representative data and more robust controls for factors like academic need, behavior, SES, and language status, the picture became more nuanced and sometimes showed under-identification for some groups.
