What values should be driving the EdTech of the future?
Q: What practical advice would you give to EdTech researchers and practitioners?
Always keep questioning and create opportunities for collective questioning and community building to challenge injustices.
What values should be driving the EdTech of the future?
Q: What does reparative approaches mean from your perspective?
Reparations involve recognizing and addressing past and present injustices to prevent them from recurring in the future.
What values should be driving the EdTech of the future?
Q: Why do you think it's actually important to challenge and contest the edtech industry?
It is crucial to challenge the edtech industry because they concentrate power and wealth while perpetuating harmful structures, creating a false dependency on their products.
Why using GenAI in education is ‘pedagogically irresponsible’
Q: You argue in the paper that generative AI is the antithesis of what good education should be. But you also say you don't think a ban is possible. Why not?
Flenady explains that generative AI tools are too pervasive and accessible to ban, and such bans would alienate disengaged students further.
Why using GenAI in education is ‘pedagogically irresponsible’
Q: What's the logic here from the university's point of view, then? Why do you imagine that universities are prepared to kind of cede responsibility to the student?
Flenady suggests that this aligns with a neoliberal model of the university where students are viewed as self-reliant consumers of education rather than part of a scholarly community.
