Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep. 4: Sativa Shakespeare; spinning to the sounds of an infant
Q: What feels different stepping on stage now compared to before you were a parent?
I feel a heightened sense of safety and awareness now. I aim to be more cautious and not as reckless, since I have to take care of myself for my child's sake.
Ep. 4: Sativa Shakespeare; spinning to the sounds of an infant
Q: If at all, how has becoming a parent changed your relationship to performing?
Becoming a parent has changed my relationship to performing by shifting my focus on timing and scheduling as I have a child that needs me, prioritizing my energy and being more selective about opportunities.
Ep.3 Riot Dee Binary: Selective activism & Ballroom culture
Q: What are your thoughts on the mainstreaming of ballroom culture?
While it brings visibility, it also risks appropriation. Some mainstream platforms take elements from ballroom culture without proper understanding or appreciation, which can diminish its original meaning.
Ep.3 Riot Dee Binary: Selective activism & Ballroom culture
Q: What is one piece of drag etiquette you wish everyone knew, both performers and audience members?
I wish everyone took into consideration other people's dynamics and understood that not every interaction is the same outside of their drag families.
Ep.3 Riot Dee Binary: Selective activism & Ballroom culture
Q: Can you briefly tell us what selective activism is and why it's an important topic to discuss?
Selective activism refers to choosing to act on social issues when it benefits oneself rather than for the overall benefit of others. It's important to discuss because it can distort the intentions behind activism and overlook the needs of marginalized communities.
