Late-Diagnosed Autism & ADHD: Why So Many Girls Get Missed With Jamie Roberts, LMFT @neurodivergenttherapist
Q: Who is this book for and how did you structure it to be inclusive?
The book targets teen girls who are navigating big emotions and identity, including six archetypes that reflect diverse experiences, including non-binary characters and LGBTQ+ perspectives, with the aim of providing a broader, non-stigmatizing understanding of neurodiversity.
Late-Diagnosed Autism & ADHD: Why So Many Girls Get Missed With Jamie Roberts, LMFT @neurodivergenttherapist
Q: So how did you decide to write it and what's in it?
The book grew out of a serendipitous moment when an acquisitions editor invited me to consider a second book after my first on mindfulness for teen anxiety. It combines my story, experiences with teens, advocacy for neuroaffirming practices, and clinical training content, plus six archetypes that represent different neurodivergent journeys to guide readers through empathy, self-understanding, and practical strategies.
What If You're Not Broken? Neurodivergence, Sanism, Eating Disorders, & Radical Acceptance With Shira Collings @threadandthreshold.therapy
Q: And how did you choose to become a neurodiversity specialist or eating disorder specialist and where is the intersection?
Shira explains that her path grew from lived experience and a desire to support others through acceptance, reducing shame, and adopting a non-pathologizing approach that affirms where people are while alleviating distress; she sees parallels between sainism, anti-fat biases, and eating disorder care.
Body Image, TikTok, & Eating Disorder Prevention With Jenny Tomei @askjenup
Q: Why is it important to start prevention in primary school?
Starting early helps address insidious body image issues before they become entrenched, reduces peer pressure around food and appearance, and creates a foundation for healthier relationships with food as children grow.
Body Image, TikTok, & Eating Disorder Prevention With Jenny Tomei @askjenup
Q: What are some specific examples of the kind of comments teachers hear that you want to change in classrooms?
Examples include negative body talk like labeling others as too skinny or fat, comments about what peers are eating, and attempts to replace those phrases with positive or neutral alternatives that focus on health and respect.
