  • It’s lost its way

I’ve now lost confidence in the academic rigour of Dr Karen. In the latest episode on supplements he tells his contributor that by switching around the supplements he takes, he’s in effect carrying out a random controlled experiment on himself! This is such a misunderstanding of the RCT process it makes the information in whole podcast questionable. I’ll look elsewhere for my information.

  • Fantastic podcast

Clear, digestible advice. No demonising of foods which I think runs prevalent in the ‘health’ podcast world ! Doesn’t have any charlatans on.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Should You Really Be Taking Peptides? | AMA with Dr Karan
Q: Are skincare peptides different from injectable peptides, and do those in creams actually work?
Skincare peptides face a skin barrier, so only smaller peptides with clever formulations can penetrate; they tend to offer modest cosmetic benefits like improved appearance rather than systemic health effects, whereas injectable peptides bypass the skin and can have broader physiological impacts, with higher risk if not properly regulated.
Should You Really Be Taking Peptides? | AMA with Dr Karan
Q: Dr. Karan, what actually is a peptide?
A peptide is a short chain of amino acids that sits between a single amino acid and a large protein; many peptides are involved in signaling inside the body, and peptide therapy involves introducing specific signals to elicit a biological response, with some therapies proven and others not yet validated.
Why Nothing Feels Fun Anymore: Dopamine, Phones & Brain Rot
Q: What is that doing to us as a society then versus now in terms of this dopamine pathway?
The guest explains that increased frequency and intensity of dopamine spikes from modern devices accelerates the depletion of dopamine resources, leading to apathy and a search for ever-greater rewards, while genuine meaningful activities require more effort to trigger dopamine release.
We STILL Don’t Understand Childbirth | Dr Jennifer Lincoln
Q: What is the current stance on vaginal seeding and its evidence base?
Vaginal seeding currently lacks robust evidence of benefit and may carry risks; patients should be given complete information and make autonomous choices, but clinicians should be cautious about endorsing it.
We STILL Don’t Understand Childbirth | Dr Jennifer Lincoln
Q: What should people do to prepare or what resources should they consider for a realistic birth picture?
Attend childbirth classes, seek reputable books and courses, and ensure resources come from recognized experts; always confirm the author's expertise and avoid material that sells an idealized version of birth.
