Dopey Podcast is the world’s greatest podcast on drugs, addiction and dumb shit. Chris and I were two IV heroin addicts who loved to talk about all the coke we smoked, snorted and shot, all the pills we ate, smoked, all the weed we smoked and ate, all the booze we consumed and all the consequences we suffered. After making the show for 2 and a half years, Chris tragically relapsed and died from a ... more

  • Don’t get demonetized Dave!!

Love this podcast Dave. I’m 4.5 years clean after almost 20 years using old school H and fentanyl out of necessity my last 2 years of using. I’ve been listening since I had about 6 months clean. Just a heads up, your decision to play Lou Reed on the last podcast is amazing bc velvet underground was my soundtrack of choice for booting up. However, using copyrighted music will get your episodes demonetized. Just a heads up. Keep doing God’s work!!!!

Boring. You have to hear the nitty-gritty in order to appreciate the miracle. He just provided a litany of things your listeners in recovery have heard 1 million times- yawn

  • Serious without taking itself too seriously.

I first listened to dopey when you were interviewing Ingrid Casares I was blown away by the podcast and I was still able to laugh. I appreciate the fine line between the serious subject matter and the humor that really helps people feel less alone. Loved your interview with Ditty and Sara Clark. Keep up the great work and toodles for Chris.

  • Life Changing

I found this podcast from the Billy Strings interview and at the time I was deep in the depths of my opiate addiction. I am now 2 months clean from all substances and so thankful for the companionship of Chris and Dave during my rehab stint. I’ll write an email soon and TOOOODLEES for Chris!

Kosher Weed, a Bank Robber & the Infamous Blue Cheese Speedball | Dopey 38 with Modi
Q: How did Modi come to be on the show?
Modi was discovered by Chris and Dave through a process of searching comedians in Manhattan and was invited to bring a provocative, comic perspective to the episode, which led to a memorable and humorous interaction with the hosts.
Michael Todd of Coheed and Cambria — Robbing Pharmacies, Heroin, Oxy's, Kicked out of band, Suicide, Shame & Radical Acceptance - Dopey Replay!
Q: What was the first time you used a needle and what happened afterward?
He recounts meeting a friend in Kingston, getting hooked on pills that escalated to heroin and injection, and the initial crash of consequence followed by a long, painful path through detox, rehab, and relapse that shaped his life.
Dopey 591: Shooting Coke! Pierced Penis! Getting Shot! Heroin & Redemption with Dopey OG Ben Croxton
Q: What was the turning point that pushed you toward seeking help?
A combination of rock-bottom episodes—the gunshot incident during a robbery, repeated hospitalizations, and the realization that the life I was living was unsustainable—pushed me to seek detox, then rehab, and eventually a spiritual framework that allowed me to start healing.
Dopey 592: Jerry Stahl Returns! Twin Peaks, Oprah Loved Crack, Airplane Crack Smoking & Die Hard at Katz's | Dopey
Q: What was your approach to writing about addiction publicly?
I aimed to be honest and humane, showing the realities of drug life without glamorizing it, and I listened to mentors like Hubert Selby to find a balance between edge and accountability for readers.
Dopey 592: Jerry Stahl Returns! Twin Peaks, Oprah Loved Crack, Airplane Crack Smoking & Die Hard at Katz's | Dopey
Q: How did you get involved with the Katz's Die Hard inspiration pitch?
The idea emerged during a playful exchange where we brainstormed a Die Hard-in-a-deli concept, blending New York deli lore with holiday hostage tropes to create a high-stakes, comedic action premise.
