  • So Rude

Whether I agree with her opinions or not truly doesn’t matter. I simply can no longer abide Tracie Hotchner’s rudeness. She invites amazing guests and spends her entire time on-air with them spouting off, over summarizing, answering her own questions, and barely allowing guests any semblance of a chance to get an edgewise word in. I listened longer than I should have because I enjoyed book recommendations, but every time I listened, Hotchner made me want to throw my phone in frustration. Serious... more

  • Horrible podcast.

Unfortunately this podcast is a waste of time. They do invite some special guests who have written great books but Tracy keeps criticizing most of them telling them what she thinks and how things should be according to her. Like the interview to Chopra's son in which she had the audacity to ask him if he knew that dogs could be house-trained! She is very rude and disrespectful and she supports the purchase of puppies! The worst episode is 10-15-2010 when she interviewed a supposed "trainer" who ... more

  • Interesting and informative

Yes, she is opinionated, but she is very informative. The podcast is fun to listen to and informative to boot. The information that is given is from experts. You can lear n about anything, from basic training to basic care. However, the podcast should be under training, not comedy. There is no jazz painist on the show! There is an astounding breadth of info presented. For example, If you are interested in learning about canine nutrition and what to look for in dog food, or if you are intere... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Studying the Human-Animal Bond Around the World
Q: What can you tell us about the three selected studies and their real-world impact?
One study examines domestic abuse and pet welfare, another focuses on separation-related stress in cats, and the third investigates virtual pet therapy as a hospital-friendly option; all aim to improve outcomes for both pets and people.
Studying the Human-Animal Bond Around the World
Q: What motivates Purina to fund these studies and how are projects selected?
A panel of scientists evaluates applications; only a few are funded each cycle based on potential impact, relevance to Purina's interests, and scientific rigor.
Studying the Human-Animal Bond Around the World
Q: How did you wind up in your role on Purina's behavior team?
Valuska explains her background in animal behavior, her post-doctoral work on captive welfare, and how she joined Purina to apply scientific insights to product development and animal welfare programs.
Dogs to the Rescue in a Mountain Thriller
Q: But then how do you write a story around it that's a mystery or a thriller or could become part of a series? Do you recommend taking a course in teaching you those meat and potatoes basics?
Yes, I would recommend taking a course from an experienced instructor. Courses with recognized authors and participating in writers conferences can provide foundational skills and structure, ensuring you learn the mechanics of mystery writing and understand how to embed clues and foreshadowing effectively.
CBD — the Wonderful Healer for Pets (But Buyer Beware)
Q: Do people mistake cannabinoids for cannabis, and why use the term cannabinoid instead of CBD?
People often think of cannabis as marijuana; the term cannabinoid is used to emphasize the broader spectrum of active compounds in the plant, many of which (like CBDA and other cannabinoids) can contribute to therapeutic effects beyond CBD alone.
