Workplace Conflct - What Smart Leaders Do Differently with Rick Buccheri I|
Q: What led you into this work?
A long journey from corporate banking and subprime lending to community mediation, discovering a passion for resolving conflict at a systemic level and applying OD principles to help organisations change.
Leading Change in a Human Way with Gareth Evans
Q: What makes formulations and presence so central to your practice?
Formulations are scaffolds to guide inquiry, not rigid rules. The presence of the practitioner—attuning to emotions, symbols, and the system's current state—enables a safer space to explore what's unsaid and to navigate relational ruptures without causing further harm.
Leading Change in a Human Way with Gareth Evans
Q: How do you begin a piece of OD work in a troubled system and set the mandate?
We start by clarity on the contract—defining what we are allowed to move towards, what needs to be named even if uncomfortable, and how we will measure progress. This involves forming a hypothesis, sharing it openly with sponsors, and staying ready to adjust as new information emerges.
The Workplace Productivity Trap - Dynamic Work Design wirth Nelson Repenning MIT OrgDev Episode 99
Q: What role does observing the work play in diagnosing and fixing problems?
Observation (go see the work) is foundational; it reveals mismatches and hidden bottlenecks that people who only rely on reports miss. It helps teams map how work moves between people and identify where processes break down.
The Workplace Productivity Trap - Dynamic Work Design wirth Nelson Repenning MIT OrgDev Episode 99
Q: How can leaders begin implementing these ideas without provoking resistance?
Leaders should start incrementally: identify the biggest source of chaos, formulate a clear problem statement, scope it down, and fix one piece at a time to create tangible wins. This lowers risk, builds evidence, and generates momentum for broader change.
