Welcome to Dimming The Gaslight! I'm Mac—a male survivor of Narcissistic Abuse. I’m documenting my real-time war divorcing a female narcissist, fighting for my kids, and surviving the U.S. family court system. I am joined by my best friend and co-host, Phil. As the former host of the "Surviving The Covert Narcissist" podcast, Phil brings a veteran perspective and much-needed levity to the darkness... more

  • Honest + raw (Ep. 174)

You are romantic and sweet, Mac, you just pick the wrong women. You ignored the red flags you saw with Alice, then you got hurt when she dumped you. You were focused on the outside — what she looked like. You ignored the fact that she is married and living with her husband, you ignored the fact that she never took her 8-year-old daughter anywhere and never even called home when was away for a week (those should have been huge red flags for you — she’s not a good person). You ignored it when she ... more

  • Great content! Incredibly validating!

I’ve had the pleasure of being a guest twice, and absolutely love the banter. Each episode I’ve listened to has unfiltered and genuine content and provides valuable insight into surviving and healing from toxic relationships. Too many people struggle with this silently, Dimming the Gaslight can help a lot of people realize they are NOT alone!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 183: Post Betrayal Syndrome: Why Time Doesn't Heal All Wounds (Interview with Dr. Debi Silber)
Q: How does forgiveness fit into healing from betrayal?
Forgiveness is framed as a self-healing process that may come later; it is about releasing power over you and, when safe, can help reconcile or rebuild. It is not mandatory to forgive the betrayer and should be tailored to individual safety and growth.
Episode 183: Post Betrayal Syndrome: Why Time Doesn't Heal All Wounds (Interview with Dr. Debi Silber)
Q: What are the five stages and how do people move through them?
She explains stage one as pre-betrayal trust, stage two as shock and discovery, stage three as survival and self-protection, stage four as deliberate rebuilding, and stage five as healing, rebirth, and a new worldview, with a focus on moving through each stage rather than staying stuck.
Episode 183: Post Betrayal Syndrome: Why Time Doesn't Heal All Wounds (Interview with Dr. Debi Silber)
Q: Can you talk about your study and what you focused on?
Dr. Silber describes studying betrayal trauma to understand how it differs from other traumas and outlines three groundbreaking discoveries, including the distinct nature of betrayal, the five stages of healing, and the existence of post-betrayal syndrome with measurable physical, mental, and emotional symptoms.
Episode 181: Empath or Abuser? The Narcissist's Crossroads (Intervirew with Nana Gyesie)
Q: What does a transformational journey look like for an empath after narcissistic abuse?
The transformation involves speaking about the healing journey publicly, integrating spiritual practices, and using the experience to help others while continuing personal growth, including boundaries and forgiveness.
Episode 181: Empath or Abuser? The Narcissist's Crossroads (Intervirew with Nana Gyesie)
Q: Where do you start when coaching someone who is ruminating and cannot get out of bed?
Begin by naming and somatically identifying depression and anxiety, then progressively analyze the bodily sensations to reduce suffering; do not rush to fix it, but invite curiosity about what depression feels like in the body.
