Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

561: 51 Years Living Off The Markets (Peter Robbins)
Q: How do you know when your strategy is good enough for the market, and should traders keep adding rules or indicators?
Good enough means the market environment aligns with the strategy's expectations; if it doesn't, adapt or pause. Traders should avoid excessive addition of rules or indicators and focus on whether they can execute their plan consistently under real conditions.
561: 51 Years Living Off The Markets (Peter Robbins)
Q: Do you think trial and error is the only way to figure out what works best for you? Is there any way to determine it from your interests and background?
Trial and error is part of the process, but the smarter path is to align your interests, skills, and personality with a style and then practice deliberately, including coaching or mentorship to accelerate learning and reduce costly mistakes.
561: 51 Years Living Off The Markets (Peter Robbins)
Q: When you look at the traders out there and maybe even your own experience, do you see that traders tend to focus only on one style and trade it when it's the right condition? Or is it a good idea to have multiple styles for multiple conditions in the market?
Experience shows that newer traders often fixate on one method, but longer-term traders accumulate multiple styles to adapt to different market environments. The key is to find what you're aligned to and gradually build competency across styles, not force yourself into a single approach.
552: Prop Firms Don't Work Like You Think (Justin Hertzberg)
Q: How should a trader evaluate whether a prop firm is likely to pay out?
Look for a firm's longevity, owner and director track records, transparent rules, consistent payout history, and evidence of hedging and risk management practices; beware of schemes that rely heavily on marketing promises with unclear back-end risk controls.
550: From Journalist To Full-Time Trader: How I Did It (Glen Goodman)
Q: So you started trading from as a journalist, right? How did it begin and how did it go from there?
He explains trading in spare time while continuing as a financial journalist, learning through trial and error, then having a major breakthrough in 2008 by anticipating a financial crash and gradually transitioning to full-time trading as his profits surpassed his salary.
