  • Howard

I have known Howard since 1985.

He has always seen dentistry from

a macro view. He also understands the pulse of the dental business so well. While most of us just plug away every day, Howard can see how a simple thing modifying your work hours or just raising the price of certain procedures or increasing your speed or monitoring what procedures bringing what profits ….and tweaking those metrics can dramatically increase your production. He’s also a master of statistics and knows the percentages... more

  • Entertaining but not informative

Farran is truly a great host, but he lets everyone and their brother come be a guest. It’s really hard to identify what’s accurate vs pseudoscience

1697 Nigel Kennedy : Dentistry Uncensored with Howard Farran
Q: So how did meeting Anthony Gedge change your trajectory?
Anthony helped translate Nigel's vision into practical marketing and patient outreach, including video testimonials and a more proactive approach to attracting patients, which broadened the pain-free movement beyond the clinic.
Dr. Jack Hahn : Dentistry Uncensored w/ Howard Farran #1706
Q: What advice would you give to graduates today about implants?
Develop a passion for it and start with a two-day hands-on course to determine if you truly like implant dentistry; focus on basics—anatomy, incision technique, bone trimming, and suturing—before diving into more complex cases.
Dr. Jack Hahn : Dentistry Uncensored w/ Howard Farran #1706
Q: How did your move into root-form implants and the development of Steri-Oss come about?
I identified the need to improve stability and ease of use, which led to the four-millimeter collar design, the creation of a tapered implant for better initial stability, and then expanding into a full system with osteotomes and color-coded components to help general practitioners treat patients more effectively.
Dr. Jack Hahn : Dentistry Uncensored w/ Howard Farran #1706
Q: My first question with you, Jack, is yesterday I was podcast interviewing an anesthesiologist and we were blown away by the claim that there wasn't even pulse oximetry until the 1980s. You were placing implants in 1970. What was dental implants like in the 1970s?
Back then it was early, with frameless frames, subperiosteals, and blade implants being popular; I got into implants after a patient and a surgeon friend pushed me to explore the field, and I started with a basic kit and hands-on courses that emphasized commitment and practicality for dentists.
Tobias Richter : Dentistry Uncensored w/ Howard Farran #1707
Q: What does the Matrix implant design change mean for everyday clinical practice?
It removes the traditional abutment, allowing a direct screw-retained crown onto the implant, which simplifies the workflow, reduces cement-related risks, and speeds up treatment while maintaining biomechanical integrity.
