  • No (wo)man is an island

Been listening since 2015. Finally switched to apple podcast and will finally leave a review. Love hearing what other dentist are struggling with and what other guys are doing. I will say I’ve been a faculty club member at spear since I graduated in ‘14 and I’ve picked up more “ snigglets” from listening to the hacks. Can we have the Mead academy for normal dentist? Thanks Alan and all the very dental crew!

P.s. clinical hacks is is a must for any listener.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Very Dental: "I Hate Dentists"
Q: What are your thoughts on the universality of hearing 'I hate dentists' from patients?
Dentists view it as a reflection of fear, cost pressure, and the awake-surgery dynamic, and many cope by making light of it or using it to set the stage for care.
Very Dental: Transparency vs. Tradition and the New Rules of Dental Supplies with George Khoury
Q: Tell me how Net32 differs from the conventional dental sales model.
Net32 does not stock product nor rely on a single sales force; it aggregates listings from various distributors and manufacturers, presenting multiple prices and delivery options in one place so clinicians can compare and choose freely, effectively replacing the old push-based sales with a consumer-like marketplace.
Very Dental: Transparency vs. Tradition and the New Rules of Dental Supplies with George Khoury
Q: Tell me about the traditional model that you described as you noticed it, you saw that it was crumbling.
The traditional model relied on high-touch distribution with field reps handling 150–200 accounts, providing equipment, services, and maintenance, but margin pressures and the rise of group purchasing organizations eroded that model, pushing Net32 to offer a transparent, self-serve platform that puts price and fulfillment choices in clinicians' hands.
Very Dental: Why Dentistry is Still a "Safe Bet" for Lenders with Kirk Dewart
Q: What should a graduating dentist or associate start doing early to prepare financially for ownership?
Save steadily, build personal financial discipline, connect with a trusted CPA and attorney, and begin forming a local advisory network to prepare for acquisition and startup financing.
Very Dental: Why Dentistry is Still a "Safe Bet" for Lenders with Kirk Dewart
Q: What's the most typical client you see—buyers or brokers, and what are their main goals?
Most common client is a buyer, often an associate moving toward ownership, with scenarios including buying from a seller or purchasing a practice through broker networks.
