  • Grateful for the space to share my story after major grief/trauma

JD invited me to be a guest on What’s Your Story and I was nervous! This was my first time coming on a podcast since my 32 year old husband died suddenly and unexpectedly in May 2025.

JD created a warm and inviting atmosphere for me to tell my story and share my journey for the first time in long form. He asked the right questions, listened, made me feel heard, and seen and comfortable- all of which is not easy to do, especially given the topics covered and the nature of my story.

  • Sharing these stories is so important

Thank you for giving your guests the time and space to share their stories, in their own words, in their own time.

People need to hear more stories like these, to know they’re not alone in their own stories & feelings. To also hear another perspective for those who haven’t had any issues or grief in their lives.

I know the guests have some relief and/or release by sharing as well. It takes courage to be so vulnerable & it can be empowering.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Naming Your Hidden Pain: The First Step in Healing Emotional Grief
Q: Why is it so hard for people to open up and say, this is me in this moment, and be willing to evolve with that?
The guest explains that pleasantries and fear of breaking norms keep people from sharing; the key is learning what the other person needs—venting or a solution—and creating safe spaces where honest language can flourish.
Leaving a Legacy: How Memory and Stories Echo Through Time
Q: How did you approach writing and publishing your memoir after so many years of living with the experiences?
The memoir evolved as the author recognized that her family's dysfunction and secrets had shaped her biology and choices; she rewrote her story, changed names, and built a framework through which others could confront their own pain and work toward healing.
Leaving a Legacy: How Memory and Stories Echo Through Time
Q: Why should listeners care about childhood trauma if they think it doesn't affect them?
Because trauma affects everyone indirectly through relationships, parenting, and society at large, influencing health costs, behavior, and how we relate to one another; understanding it can empower listeners to change how they parent and show up for others.
Story #95 - The Courage of Empathy
Q: What makes it so hard for people to respond to others' traumas, and what helps you keep going?
She explains that fear of saying the wrong thing often keeps people from engaging, but consistent self-work, active listening, and small acts of care help move conversations forward and create safe spaces.
The Power of Generosity: Turning Lived Experience Into Healing
Q: Let's start with that fun question of who are you?
The guest describes herself as many things—mom, nature lover, gardener, multimodal healer and guide, humanitarian, and a lifelong learner who seeks to connect with others.
