  • Insightful, engaging, and always enjoyable

The Times Tech Podcast has quickly become one of my favourites. The presenters have a great rapport that makes each episode feel natural and easy to listen to. I really appreciate the focus on a single topic per episode—it allows for a deeper dive without ever feeling overwhelming. • New format needs work

I was a fan of Danny in the Valley but the new format is not yet delivering. It feels like 15 min of content for 1 hr of listening. The presenters are v professional but talking to each other is not as compelling as hearing them interview tech practitioners.

Please rethink - good talent being wasted here.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Why the Pope is taking on Silicon Valley and AI
Q: If fusion succeeds, what will be the endgame benefit for everyday people and when might that arrive?
The goal is clean, baseload energy that lowers overall energy costs and stabilizes grids; if timelines hold, fusion could contribute meaningfully within the coming decades, but deployment will be gated by materials, construction, and supply chains rather than pure science.
Why the Pope is taking on Silicon Valley and AI
Q: Could you just explain what nuclear fusion is and where we are?
Fusion is the process that powers the sun, producing large amounts of energy by confining hot plasma with magnetic fields; right now we can illustrate fusion in labs, but making it a practical, large-scale energy source remains a major engineering and manufacturing challenge.
Inside Elon Musk’s trillion dollar mission to colonise Mars
Q: What is the main driver behind the extraordinary SpaceX valuation versus the current financials?
Dan Ives argues that the valuation is driven by the strategic potential across multiple pillars (space, data centers, AI, and energy) and the belief that SpaceX could lead a broader industrial and AI revolution, even if near-term profits don't match the hype.
AI in security and defence: is tech making us safer?
Q: Are we heading toward armies of autonomous weapons or will human oversight prevail?
He asserts that fully autonomous armies are unlikely; there will be more autonomous systems, but governance, rules of engagement, and political decisions will constrain their deployment, with humans often involved in key decisions.
AI in security and defence: is tech making us safer?
Q: But how has your job changed with the recent political shifts and the US-UK defense relationship?
The CTO explains that while US-facing activities are driven by federal policy, the core commercial decisions depend on customer needs, sovereignty concerns, and the evolving defense market, with emphasis on strategic collaboration with industry.
