  • Feels Like I’m Listening to A Close Friend

I love this show so much, and I’m so glad that I found Hannah and her story! I didn’t grow up in a cult-like church, thankfully, but I love how she takes that trauma and has turned it into something beautiful and healing, and very funny! I also do absolutely know what it feels like to perform straight-ness as a child/teen, so she’s definitely reaching the right audience. I really resonate with all of her takes on coming into her queerness, and finding the comedy scene, and the fact that she inte... more

  • New fav podcast!!!

This podcast hooked me immediately!! I think it’s so incredibly brave of Hannah to share so much of her trauma and hardships that come along with the story of her past. But the stories of hardship are perfectly balanced with stories of absolute joy, words of wisdom, and so much laughter! Even as someone who can’t relate to the specifics of Hannah’s story, I find it so eye opening and heart warming to listen to her. I especially love the solo episodes :)

Solo Stoned Episode: The Lesbian Mafia, 2.5mg Edibles, & the Gilded Age | Cross My Heart #12
Q: What is your favorite gay stereotype?
Her favorite stereotype is that lesbians are tradesmen or skilled with machinery, which she humorously leans into as a playful, self-aware stereotype about her own group.
Q&A: Church Trauma, Lesbian Dating, and Why I Called God Daddy | Cross My Heart Episode 8 (solo episode)
Q: What are your tips for making gay friends after leaving a conservative hometown?
Put yourself in spaces where queer communities gather, join activities like classes or events, and be proactive in showing up; communities will form as you participate and share common interests.
Q&A: Church Trauma, Lesbian Dating, and Why I Called God Daddy | Cross My Heart Episode 8 (solo episode)
Q: What encouraged you to come out?
She describes coming out as a process rather than a single moment, influenced by changes in friendships, a widening circle of acceptance, and the realization that authentic connections mattered more than staying within prescribed roles.
Q&A: Church Trauma, Lesbian Dating, and Why I Called God Daddy | Cross My Heart Episode 8 (solo episode)
Q: What had a bigger impact on your belief system, your parents or your church?
Her environment cultivated both strong adherence and controlling dynamics, but she emphasizes that the church's influence was foundational and constraining, while family dynamics often mirrored and reinforced those beliefs, making the shift away gradual and complex.
Q&A: Church Trauma, Lesbian Dating, and Why I Called God Daddy | Cross My Heart Episode 8 (solo episode)
Q: Why did you lie in your diary? Isn't God supposed to know you're lying? Was it denial? Why Daddy God?
Lying in the diary was tied to cognitive dissonance and a need to perform piety; she explains the concept of doublethink and how, inside a high-control religious environment, two conflicting truths can feel simultaneously true, leading to a split between outward religion and inner identity.
