  • You need a fact checker

I just listened to the Feb 23 podcast in which Kevin O’Leary claimed that the CAD lost 41% over the nine years that Trudeau has been in power. Did the math myself and it’s 8%. I don’t blame the host, but don’t you have producers who can check stuff like that and relay it to the host? I like the show, but I have to knock a star for that.

  • Great podcast

Found this podcast through Spotify and have quickly gone through previous episodes. I love hearing perspectives from different parts of Canada. The episode on Covid 4-year anniversary was well done. It was a moment to reflect and felt like a collective acknowledgment of a confusing time. Great podcast!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Spotlight: How to handle financial pressure from wedding costs
Q: You threw your wedding in your dad's garage. Tell us about that.
We kept it simple and meaningful: DIY decorations, home-cooked food, local officiant, and family friends performing music, all for about $3,000, proving you can have a memorable celebration without a big budget.
Spotlight: Your renovation horror stories
Q: Could 24 Sussex be renovated in a way that also demonstrates Canada's housing excellence while staying affordable?
There is value in acknowledging renovation as a national priority and using it as a demonstration project; however, balancing heritage, cost, and functional needs will require careful policy, expert input, and transparent budgeting.
Spotlight: Your renovation horror stories
Q: Is budget the biggest factor in deciding how far a renovation can go, and how should people approach it?
Yes, budget largely dictates scope. Start with a clear budget, align it with a realistic plan, and bring in a designer or pro who understands costs and timelines to avoid overspending and ensure the plan is feasible.
Spotlight: Your renovation horror stories
Q: What's the first mistake people usually make when they start out on a big project?
The main mistake is not doing proper upfront prep and budget work; homeowners should clearly define their vision, gather reference materials, educate themselves on materials and costs, and set a realistic budget before engaging a contractor.
Spotlight: Youth unemployement guide: For parents and kids
Q: What is your advice then for somebody who wants a job at one of your stores and feels demoralized about the labor market?
The employer recommends applying online properly, showing up on time, leaving the phone aside, and being prepared to spend time in-store to understand the workflow; it's about showing commitment and fitting in with the workplace culture.
