  • Wish this pod existed in my youth!

I spent my teenage years dealing with death cramps and running into the same non-answers from medial professionals. Eventually, they became manageable when I went on birth control, and now that I’m 40 and I’ve had two children they are squarely in the normal range. I would have loved to have had this resource and camaraderie in my teenage years. Kate is so talented and warm, and I’m grateful she has taken on this work to help women who are suffering.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Sex Ed with DB: Testosterone, Pleasure, and the Libido Myth
Q: Why is there no FDA-approved testosterone product for women in the US despite many products being approved for men?
Due to a long history of gender bias in medicine and regulation, and the need for more studies on safety and efficacy in women; regulatory hurdles have blocked approval even after promising trials.
Sex Ed with DB: Testosterone, Pleasure, and the Libido Myth
Q: How should clinicians assess whether someone could benefit from testosterone?
Evaluation should be patient-driven, using structured questionnaires to assess desire and distress, and consider underlying factors like relationship issues or vaginal dryness before prescribing.
Sex Ed with DB: Testosterone, Pleasure, and the Libido Myth
Q: What is the number one thing people should know about testosterone?
There are both potential benefits and risks, and it should not be viewed as universally good or bad; decisions should be individualized and made within a comprehensive treatment plan.
How I Got My Diagnosis: Daphne
Q: What advice would you give to someone in a similar situation five years ago?
Pay close attention to your body, keep a simple symptoms journal if possible, seek care from providers who validate your experiences, and don't hesitate to switch doctors if bedside manner or communication is poor; you deserve to be heard.
A BAD STUDY with Professor Andrea Jones-Rooy
Q: So first of all, is this a bad study, Andrea?
Andrea explains that while the study has red flags, it can still offer value in showing where basic assumptions may or may not hold, and emphasizes the importance of publishing even those results that are unexciting to correct biases in science.
