  • Un-listenable cacophony

The host speaks too fast to be discernible and the guests call into the show on telephones that sound like they’re from the 1990s. How can you be interesting or intelligent if no one can hear or understand you??

Don’t waste your time on this amateur hour.

  • Informative and inspirational

Enjoy every one of your episodes with excellent format and content. The episode today with Dr Tom Bodenheimer of UCSF Center for Excellence on primary care was particularly interesting to me. Loved the way you were able to draw specific examples of excellence in primary care from Dr Bodenheimer. Specifics are so helpful in gaining a better understanding of best practices. Finished with a feeling of joy when Dr Bodenheimer told the story of the medical student’s first experience with a patient. A... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Hot Dogs, Jello, Waffle House: Time to Rethink ‘Bad’ Foods?
Q: What is the role of policy and regulation in shaping healthier eating without banning individual foods?
The discussion emphasizes using regulatory and tax measures to influence food environments, support healthier options, and ensure access, rather than attempting to ban specific items. Examples include reformulating hospital menus within budgets and expanding SNAP and universal school lunches to reduce nutritional inequities.
Hot Dogs, Jello, Waffle House: Time to Rethink ‘Bad’ Foods?
Q: Define industrial foods and explain the distinction from ultra-processed foods as it relates to public health.
Industrial foods are those produced under large-scale, standardized systems that aim to provide universal, consistent nutrition; however, the term ultra-processed is a category from NOVA that groups many foods together, sometimes unfairly labeling them as unhealthy. The guests argue for recognizing nuance and focusing on overall dietary patterns and policy tools rather than vilifying whole categories.
The New Yorker’s Dr. Khullar: Restoring Trust in CDC Could Take “Decades”
Q: You recently wrote a column in The New Yorker about the undermining of the CDC. Can you summarize what's happening and why it matters?
The guest explains that apolitical health guidance is being shadowed by political considerations, with science and public health expertise at risk of being sidelined, which undermines trust and the effectiveness of health policy.
Your Role in Truth Initiative’s New Vape Battle
Q: How are you tailoring cessation programs to diverse communities, and what partnerships are you leveraging?
The program uses demographic and psychographic insights to culturally tailor messages, and partnerships like NAACP help deliver prevention and cessation messaging through trusted channels.
Your Role in Truth Initiative’s New Vape Battle
Q: What is your view on FDA authorization of Juul's tobacco and menthol flavors and their potential to help adult smokers switch away from cigarettes?
There is truth that FDA's high scientific bar can permit certain FDA-authorized products for adults, aiming to reduce harm for smokers who switch, but not for nicotine-naive youth.
