Reviews

4.3 out of 5 stars from 26 ratings
  • Un-listenable cacophony

The host speaks too fast to be discernible and the guests call into the show on telephones that sound like they’re from the 1990s. How can you be interesting or intelligent if no one can hear or understand you??

Don’t waste your time on this amateur hour.

  • Informative and inspirational

Enjoy every one of your episodes with excellent format and content. The episode today with Dr Tom Bodenheimer of UCSF Center for Excellence on primary care was particularly interesting to me. Loved the way you were able to draw specific examples of excellence in primary care from Dr Bodenheimer. Specifics are so helpful in gaining a better understanding of best practices. Finished with a feeling of joy when Dr Bodenheimer told the story of the medical student’s first experience with a patient. A... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

HIV Funding in Jeopardy: What’s at Stake
Q: How has CDC funding specifically helped prevent HIV, beyond education campaigns?
It has funded PrEP access, education, and workforce training that allowed centers to identify eligible individuals, reach populations at highest risk, and keep people on PrEP through supportive services.
GLP-1 Therapies: Where We’ve Been & Where We’re Going
Q: Can you give us a preview of what you're looking at and likely to recommend regarding standards of care for obesity treatments?
We're developing a standards of care document to guide clinicians in both primary and specialty settings, incorporating trial data, real-world evidence, and expert opinion so that care is evidence-based, long-term, and tailored to individual patient needs rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
How a Bill on Capitol Hill Spurred a Health Revolution
Q: Let's start with Joe. What was happening to federally funded research that universities, small businesses, and nonprofit institutions were successfully conducting?
The episode explains how government ownership of early-stage research discouraged commercialization, and how Bayh-Dole shifted ownership to universities and small businesses to encourage translation of discoveries into marketable products, spurring investment and industry collaboration.
‘Fur’ Our Health: New Pet-Human Bond Research
Q: What are the main distinctions among service, therapy, and emotional support animals, and why does that matter clinically?
Service animals perform work for a disability and have broad public access; therapy animals provide comfort in structured settings like hospitals; emotional support animals offer housing stability benefits but do not have the same work or access roles; understanding these helps ensure appropriate care, welfare, and policy considerations.
‘Fur’ Our Health: New Pet-Human Bond Research
Q: Tell us how you quantify the economic impact of pet ownership on the US health system.
We start with specific conditions where pets show measurable benefits, track the number of affected individuals, and model potential reductions in doctor visits and hospitalizations to arrive at substantial savings.
