  • One of the BEST VOICES out there in the parenting space!

I have followed Connected Families blog and podcast for several years now. I am homeschooling two active, spirited, sensitive and possibly neurodivergent kids, one of whom is entering the tween years. I have no doubt that if I had not found the wisdom and balanced teaching shared by this ministry, I would have resigned myself to repeating the fear and force based “discipline” of my own generation. I honestly feel that we would have abandoned homeschooling and deeply damaged our relationship with... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Foster Care and Faith: Supporting Foster Families in Your Community
Q: What was the gap between what you expected foster parenting to be and what you actually walked into?
Jamie explains that expectations based on traditional parenting books were naive; the real challenges include trauma, neglect, and the biological and developmental impacts on kids, plus the complexity of navigating state systems and relationships with bioparents. She emphasizes shifting from a rescue mindset to a gospel-centered, relational, and systemic understanding.
From Feeling Like a Bad Mom to Deeply Loved
Q: What does it look like in real life when the lie you're most loved is tied to behaving well?
The guest explains that love and acceptance come from being valued as a person, not judged by performance, and describes concrete shifts in parenting where affection is offered despite mistakes, with open expressions of grace.
How to Motivate Children: What the Research Says
Q: What two things could parents do right now to grow responsibility and motivation in their kids?
The two steps are to make a plan via family meetings to clarify values and choices, and to celebrate progress and successes to reinforce value, belonging, and confidence.
How to Motivate Children: What the Research Says
Q: So can you speak into that? How can parents help their children grow motivation for chores?
Katie outlines a plan that ties everyday chores to long-term goals, emphasizes the three motivators (value, confidence, choice), and suggests using modeling, stories, and small, achievable steps to build belief in their own abilities.
A Parent Training Program that Meets You Where You Are
Q: What does the format look like and is there homework?
It's a six-week, two-hour-per-session group on Zoom with some reflection homework between sessions, not a one-on-one coaching setup.
