Long time listener since the podcast started.

What’s with all the mouse clicks, Riley? That was extremely annoying.

  • Great info, great discussions

I started listening to the podcast around the time I started to consider concealed carry. I’ve listened to and 3 years of backlog plus the current stuff and found this to be an incredibly insightful and interesting listen everytime. I’ve been a CCW holder for just over a year now and not only has this podcast been full of good info for concealed carriers but it also got me interested in trying out competition shooting. I’ve been shooting SCSA and rimfire challenges for 8 months and I’m hooked.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S1217: Competent and Dangerous with Justin Carroll
Q: What are the biggest incorrect things or things that concealed carriers are ignoring or neglecting?
Improper carry conditions and the practice of open carry; many concealed carriers neglect carrying with a round in the chamber and using holsters that do not adequately protect the trigger.
S12E12: Consistency and Layers – A Multi-tiered Approach to Effective Self-Defense w/ Brandon Fisher
Q: What would you say as advice for folks listening or viewing to be more consistent in their training?
Train on a regular basis.
S12E8: Preparing Ourselves for THAT Day w/ Bill Dermody of HK-USA
Q: What would you recommend as the next step for someone who just got their concealed carry permit?
Focus on getting quality training rather than upgrading your firearm. Find a reputable instructor and invest in learning how to draw your weapon effectively from concealment.
S12E1: Fiction That Trains You: Firearms, First Aid, and the Mindset of a Protector w/ John Gilstrap
Q: How do you approach the political discourse in your writing?
I think that most politicians are gas bags who don't have any real understanding of the situations they're legislating on. My character, Jonathan Grave, embodies a strong sense of justice and criticizes inefficiencies in bureaucracy.
S12E1: Fiction That Trains You: Firearms, First Aid, and the Mindset of a Protector w/ John Gilstrap
Q: Why is it so important for you to be accurate with firearms in your writing?
It's important to me because my name is on the spine of the book, and readers expect realism, especially with firearms. If I get a detail wrong, I want to be held accountable.
