Love this podcast! Only wish he had them more often!
This podcast has made my practices much more effective and fun for myself and my players. My favorite drills are the Fungo drill and the High Tempo Scrimmage. It’s kind of sad to see the kids on the other teams at the facility watching our high tempo practice longingly while they spend most of their time standing lines. Thanks Coach Dave!
The philosophy of this podcast is pretty solid. My only issue is with the idea from the Matheny Manifesto that parents and players to be “silent” on the sidelines. In my opinion it’s old school mentality like this that is keeping the game of baseball from progressing to new heights. As long as the people on the sidelines encourage with positivity, I don’t care how loud they get. It makes it more fun for everyone. Also don’t really understand how a lefty thrower at an infield position is “danger... more
Coach Dave, I’m a former college basketball player and varsity football coach that finds myself coaching my son's 10u team. A practical, coach-focused show that centers on youth baseball player development, coaching strategies, and creating a positive learning environment. Episodes highlight structured practice over mere games, building robust pitching rosters, and fostering player development with a clear emphasis on long-term growth rather than short-term wins. The host often critiques traditional youth baseball models, advocates independent, player-centered approaches, and shares actionable drills, psychological tips, and leadership guidance valuable to both volunteer parents and working coaches. A notable strength is translating high-level baseball experience into accessible, battlefield-tested coaching advice for coaches at all levels from T-ball to high sc... more
