I’ve been listening to national security podcasts for years and recently came across CNA Talks. I’m shocked that I hadn’t found it before now. Each episode is incredibly timely and the guests are brilliant, but accessible. I appreciate that the host has good questions that expound on the topic at hand and how well they stay focused and on topic. How Can Emergency Managers Safely Integrate AI Tools?
Q: What are the use cases for AI for state and local emergency managers?
AI can save time by aggregating information, building dashboards for situational awareness, drafting public messaging, reconstructing incidents from hundreds of records, and supporting exercise design and planning. It also aids modeling, predictive analytics for critical infrastructure, and administrative tasks, all while preserving human judgment and oversight.

China's Influence in Pacific Island's Media
Q: How does China's approach differ from that of traditional Western partners?
China's involvement is characterized by a universal aim to shape content positively toward China, a wider scope of tactics, and notably opaque, non-public bilateral arrangements, contrasted with Western aid that cannot compel journalists.
China's Influence in Pacific Island's Media

The episode outlines a three-tier framework: formal government-to-government media cooperation, partnerships with individual Pacific Island media outlets, and targeted influence on media practitioners through funding, trips, and personal engagement to steer coverage.
China's Influence in Pacific Island's Media
Q: What motivated this research and why focus on the Pacific Islands now?
