  • EPP 433: Ghost Ship of the Pacific

Sorry, very interesting topic but the background noise, telephonic rings, scratchy microphones just ruined listening to it.

  • Deterrence

Taiwan/ROC does not/ cannot reconquer the mainland/PRC. The US ought to sign a new treaty with Taiwan/ROC & be very specific that the US will come to the aid of Taiwan/ROC.

The US expects its allies: Japan, South Korea, Australia & NATO, to come to our aid when the PRC attacks US territory/military.

  • Disappointing

How they made the passage a number of times and small sailing vessels Kariva flown the area, many times, and walked the site on Vanderburgh. The presentation offered little to an understanding of what happened and why. well, most people think of California as having a north south coast line, between San Francisco and Los Angeles. The coastline makes a nearly 90° turn just south of the incident site. Thus there is a strong incentive to make the turn. As early as possible.

  • Convince ward to come back to proceedings

Have loved this podcast for years. The carroll- Hamblett team were interesting and incisive and never failed to entertain. Now, it has become less interesting and almost hard to listen to. Just try listening to the most recent SNA episode and notwithstanding the contractor pitch, the background noise was unbearable! Please up the game and get back to the purpose of the podcast and improve the technical quality!! Thanks

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

EP. 463: Keep Coast Guard Production Lines Open to Grow the National Fleet
Q: Can you elaborate on the bold opening statement of your article regarding the national fleet?
Sure, I believe we are at a maritime inflection point where we're lacking the numbers of ships required to deter near-peer competitors like China.
EP. 459: How NOT to Start a Fish War
Q: Can you point to examples of successful international cooperation on fisheries enforcement?
The Maritime Safe Act, involving multiple US government agencies, is one way to address IUU fishing through collaboration.
EP. 459: How NOT to Start a Fish War
Q: What risks are associated with using military assets for fisheries protection?
Using military assets could escalate situations unnecessarily, as most fishers are not criminal actors.
EP. 459: How NOT to Start a Fish War
Q: How do countries enforce their Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ)?
Enforcement involves using Coast Guard cutters and local agents, applying collaborative governance models and developing bilateral maritime law enforcement agreements.
EP. 459: How NOT to Start a Fish War
Q: Why are fishing violations hard to spot?
Fish are not illegal commodities like drugs; it's difficult to establish the legality of a catch without evidence of where it was caught.
