  • EPP 433: Ghost Ship of the Pacific

Sorry, very interesting topic but the background noise, telephonic rings, scratchy microphones just ruined listening to it.

  • Deterrence

Taiwan/ROC does not/ cannot reconquer the mainland/PRC. The US ought to sign a new treaty with Taiwan/ROC & be very specific that the US will come to the aid of Taiwan/ROC.

The US expects its allies: Japan, South Korea, Australia & NATO, to come to our aid when the PRC attacks US territory/military.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Naval History Podcast: Inside Mitscher’s Battle of Midway Cover-up
Q: What new perspective does your Naval History article add to the discussion?
The article consolidates input from prominent naval historians, presents a cohesive case that attempts to close the long-running debate by laying out the sequence of events, the evidence, and the implications for both historical understanding and Mitscher's legacy.
Naval History Podcast: Inside Mitscher’s Battle of Midway Cover-up
Q: What would an honest after-action report have looked like and how might it have affected Mitscher's career?
An honest report would have acknowledged deviations from orders and the true flight path, potentially harming Mitscher's reputation in the short term but preserving historical accuracy; it might have delayed or altered his path to higher command depending on how the Navy chose to frame the truth.
Naval History Podcast: Inside Mitscher’s Battle of Midway Cover-up
Q: What exactly did Mitscher do to cover up the events on 4 June 1942?
Mitscher reportedly blocked the after-action reports and authorized a single consolidated report that claimed the Hornet Air Group followed a course similar to the Enterprise group, effectively fabricating the alignment with Spruance's orders and omitting key discrepancies.
Naval History Podcast: Inside Mitscher’s Battle of Midway Cover-up
Q: How did this revelation first come to light?
Bowen Weishite's accidental discovery of a location tied to his friend's death, which did not align with the official history, triggered a chain of interviews and archival cross-checking that eventually connected to John Lundstrom's prior work, bringing renewed scrutiny to Mitscher's actions.
EP. 494: Dollars, Defense, and Reform: A Conversation with Senator Tim Sheehy
Q: How do you balance the pursuit of advanced, high-end systems with the need for quantity and industrial base resilience?
We should embrace a mindset like SpaceX's iteration—pursue quantity and rapid iteration to improve quality, and use a mix of exquisite systems where they offer true leverage, but not at the expense of mass production and supply chain reliability.
